The Service Message instructs the technician to update the PCM with a revised calibration. That may be what they were referring to, since the PCM will be listed on the RO as a component for the repair but with a quantity of "0".
that makes a bit more sense....update vs replace

well last few days have at least been positive..still moving in the right direction but I cannot make up what I was told yesterday evening...

spoke with my dealer service mgr, they reached out to the ford across the road for the quote. ford says we need to see the truck. dealer says ok we'll tow it over real quick. ford says why cant you drive it? dealer says well we did a full tear down to diagnose the issue(s) and chose not to reassemble so that repairs would be more efficient. ford says well we cannot provide a quote without seeing the truck running.....

so my dealer is now reassembling my truck to drive it across the street just to have ford start it and go "oh yeah, cam phasers etc, gonna cost $Xk"....unbelievable...

didn’t you take a video from before? If you did, that is enough to diagnose the cam phaser park issue, numerous users here have done this to get past the “it’s not throwing a DTC so there’s no problems” BS.

sure did. two of them actually. my dealer has them and said they forwarded it to the Ford service dept so I'm not sure why Ford is so hung up on getting the vehicle in running condition

Hey guys, just got gen 2 with 70k miles (no warranty) however i am seeing here that TSB is released, so is that mean that FORD will cover the repairs?
Again i appreciate all help and how to approach service guys so i can get this fixed.
Noise is not that bad only for a 1-2 at start but i would like to get this fixed.

Thanks !

Unlike an FSA (recall), TSBs are not covered outside of warranty. However; if you contact Ford Customer Service, they will often consider goodwill, especially if you bought the vehicle brand new.

2019 with 8k is at my dealer for the phasers and it’s been there for 3 wks. I’m hoping that they replace the chains and solenoids also, it was starting to run really sluggish and it always has had a surging feeling, when I accelerate. Has anyone else experienced the surging?

So you joined today...and this is your first post?

What was the symptom? Did the dealer diagnose it as a phaser concern, or are you assuming it is? There is no reason to replace chains or solenoids with 8K on the engine unless there is a concern identified with either which is extremely rare.

Might want to introduce yourself in the New members section and post some pics.

1st symptom was the obvious rattling 2nd was a loss in power ,while waiting for my appointment at the dealership. They have ordered the phasers and are replacing all 4, so there isn’t any “assumptions “ at all. I’m sorry that I didn’t know the proper protocol for the forum, I’ve never joined one, just read them for information and if there’s a problem with me asking a viable question and reporting a problem on my truck, then maybe joining was a mistake.

A cam phaser locking pin issue will not result in a loss of engine power; it is simply a noise that occurs during cold start until the phasers receive full oil pressure, at which point they operate normally. If a phaser has a failure mode unrelated to the locking pin that is severe enough to cause a lack of power, you will have a check engine light with camshaft timing DTCs.

There is no "proper protocol", it's just not common to have someone join a specialty vehicle forum and their first post on the day they join is a complaint regarding a failure that was addressed and resolved in manufacturing in earlier model years. As with any forum there are people create fake profiles to troll and stir up trouble; it always helps to introduce yourself in the new members forum and post some pictures of your truck.
