I have a question for guys that know a lot more about the Eco-boost than I do. I found both a small amount of leaking coolant down by the skid plate, and some leaking oil. I cleaned it up & topped off the coolant tank, which was about 3" low. Oil level was fine. I drove it about another 100 mile before I got it into the dealer. Only 400 total on the truck. At that point all I saw was some oil leaking, didn't see any more coolant. The dealer says it has a cracked timing cover.

My question is, would a cracked timing cover be able to leak both oil and coolant, or just oil? I'm just trying to make sure I have only 1 problem, and not 2. I didn't know if the timing cover also opened into any of the coolant passages. Thanks.

The water pump is mounted in the front cover, so a crack can result in both a coolant and oil leak.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. I first found a slight coolant leak, than a few days later an oil leak. The service writer kept saying the low coolant had to be an air bubble and that's why my expansion tank was low. I told him I know I'm not the smartest guy ever, but I do know coolant from oil. I even told him when I first found the coolant drops on the skid plate it was yellow, but it also felt slightly oily.

So that makes sense then. Timing cover should be in shortly and get it back next week. I was just trying to make sure I don't have 2 separate issues. Thanks.

You're welcome! First I've heard of that issue; possibly a bad casting.

It's a bummer to have something go off on a brand new truck, but I'm glad it's a straightforward repair. I love this truck. I thought it was awesome from the 2 test drives I did before I ordered it. Now that I own one, the more I drive it, the more I'm impressed with it.
