Timbren SES on a GEN 3?

@Tazercat @98Craig @Rocu2zzz I get in touch with Timbren on the Bump stops that didn't work. For the second time they sent me some new parts to make this work. Timbren has been very responsive and helpful in helping make their bump stops work on the Gen 3. Both times they got with engineering and got parts out to me within a couple of days. I received the parts yester day and installed them on my truck and it looks like they will work. This time they sent me a set of new bumpers that I paired with the bigger metal brackets and 2 1/2" spacers per side to give me a gap of around an 1 1/4". The new bumps they sent are beefier than the original bumper that is the same as what is used on 2017-2020 trucks.

Picking up my boat this afternoon so I will try to get some picture and measurements of how much the back end sags before and after the boat is hooked up....stay tuned.

Thanks for posting this info! I'm certainly interested. Don't know how far you tow, but can you tell us how the ride is unloaded and loaded as well? I'm hoping the ride is the same unloaded.

I don't tow often with the boat. Getting it out of storage tonight and then driving it 2 hours away to the dealer that I bought the boat from for service. I will pick it up next weekend so another 2 hours back.
So far the ride has been the same. Obviously I am only driving on the road so no real reason for the suspension to engage the bump stop. Although, pulling into work we have a water line running across our entrance for some major road construction that is being done. They installed a bridge to connect the water lines to so we and our trucks can get in and out of our parking lot. The steel bridge is pretty thick and layered so water can pass through. I go over it slow and definitely noticed the difference this morning that the rear suspension hit the bump stop. It really wasn't that bad though.

I recently installed Sumo Springs on my Gen 2. I haven't done any towing yet, because the weather's been too crappy for camping. I can say that with a full load of passengers, I can feel (slightly) a difference on a bumpy road when the "springs" are contacting the axle. I'll definitely be switching back to the stock bump stops if I do another Rallycross, or any real off roading. I'm a little concerned about upward stress on the frame rails from repeated hard contact while off roading.

How did it perform pulling the boat? Did you get any pics?

The truck performed pretty good. I had a couple spots where the trailer seemed to be swaying a bit, but it was also windy out. Most of the trip it was a smooth ride. Averaged about 10.5 mpg. With the truck resting the bump stops were not even contacted. There was probably 1/4" or less gap between the bump stop and the axle. My truck only had about an 1" drop at the rear. I measured from the hitch. The pictures and measurements I got aren't perfect nor on perfectly level ground either, but it was the best I could do. My total setup is around 6,000lbs.

I had this same issue with Timbren when I bought the parts back in January. I installed them in the beginning of February and ended up with a huge gap!


I called them up with measurements and they quickly sent me a new setup. Completely different, why haven’t they just updated the website!? Here’s the before and after setups.


I tow different stuff with mine, but usually it’s my toy hauler loaded with an XP4 Turbo, 30 Gallons fuel, and 100 gallons water.

The hauler loaded and with fluids is 10,000 lbs. The truck tows is great even running 37’s, I use the Timbrens and a Husky 12k anti sway weight distribution hitch. I’ve already towed thousands of miles so far. I got the truck end of January and just passed 7,000 miles, been taking lots of trips. Gas mileage sucks, I’m 8.2 MPG since new, and 6.7 MPG when towing this setup. Whatever! Lol

Is your truck a 35 or 37? That is a different setup than what Timbren sent me. Different bracket for sure and the bump stop looks different also. I will say, Timbren was very responsive in getting me something that worked. Once I contacted them, new parts were at my door in a couple of days.

Ya, agreed - they were easy to get it figured out.

My truck started life as a 35 from DTP. I did also add a 3/4” FMI Rear Coil Spacer so maybe that’s why it looks a little different.

Timbren probably runs into people with different things going on all the time, they want these so close to your rear ended while unloaded, depending on mileage and how the truck was used in the past, they’re probably used to making little adjustments for people. The setup I ended up with has held up, I was ripping the truck hard a couple weeks ago on the Bloody Basin Trail in AZ (basically a high speed groomed fire road), I slammed the rear ended so hard at one point I thought for sure I broke the spacer brackets and was towing home with no helper bumps, but when I got to the end and looked, no damage at all - couldn’t believe it lol
