Thoughts on trading '18 Raptor for new '19/'20 Limited?

All good! Just saying I appreciate both for their qualities; it's all about customer preference. Driving through Metro Detroit I'd be bending a wheel a month on a Limited, which is one of the many reasons I got a Raptor. But for someone with nothing but paved, flat roads and no intention of going off road, the Limited is still a great choice.

I went from 2015 Platinum (first aluminum body) then 2019 Limited and 11 months later 2020 Raptor. Same engine and a lot slower than 19 Limited due to wheels and weight difference. I only miss one Limited feature, the massaging seats. The Raptor capabilities do not compare to the rest of the F150 lineup. I regularly run out to a friend 80 acre plot to hunt pigs, Limited at 20 mph was a hang on tight experience, The Raptor at 45 mph is just plain fun. We have a 19 Rubicon in our house and the Raptor is the favorite for high speed off-roading.

I wish the Raptor had massaging seats lol. Would feel good after an off roading session. But I think thats about the only thing missing.

I just traded in my 2015 Lariat on a 2020 Raptor. I was waiting for the 2021 redesign to come out and probably get a KR or Limited or maybe another Lariat. I really liked the idea of a Limited b/c of the motor. But then when I realized I could get a great deal on the Raptor (big discounts off MSRP in my area), I couldn't hold back.

Both the Limited and the Raptor are very expensive trucks with great engines. But when I think about what I get in the Raptor that I don't get in a Limited, I'm sooooo happy I pulled the trigger.

Also, on any new purchase, take a hard look at other options than the 0% deals because they usually want you to pay full sticker. Rates are very low right now anyway and you can still negotiate on the price. Just do the math and see what makes sense. I used my credit union (they are fantastic to work with), but even Ford offered me a rate around 2.5% for 66 mos.

I mean, that's a big part of it. My family has a farm where I hunt, and I go out there a good bit. I don't think I'd do 95mph down a fire road in the Limited like I do in the Raptor (on occasion), or put it in Baja and rip around. I had a 1794 Tundra before, and I could do most stuff I wanted in it, but it surely wasn't a Raptor, either.

The Limited has the same exact engine, with the supposed fix, so it's not guaranteed you won't a cam phaser issue in the future.

The Limited will depreciate faster, so even if it's a 0% you got to make sure you love the truck for a bit. Does a Limited at 0% equal a cheaper payment for you?
Or is it that you hate paying interest?

I've done the Raptor to other pickup to SRT Jeep.
Back in a Raptor.

My wife loves these trucks. Before I got into these money pits I had a 11 GT500.
Before we got married I traded it in for the first Raptor I owned.
She likes to drive the Raptor over her new Expedition.

Probably both on payment/interest, but I run it through my business so it's not a huge deal either way. I'm not happy about having mine cracked open for the cam phasers, and I don't think we'll get a new Raptor to go with the 2021 F150 launch. That's a good point on the Limited's depreciation.

That's part of the deal...the Limited is more of a stealth bomber/Qship. The Raptor stands out, both good and bad. I get tired of every Donnie with an intake and exhaust trying to race me. Where I am in SC, I see more and more Raptors. I do love it, though. And I do go offroad a decent amount. Plus, my wife says it's a "boyfriend" truck, and the KR/Limited are "Dad" trucks.

My wife calls mine the "man magnet."

All F-150 3.5 GTDI engines built 07/2018 and later have the updated cam phaser design. Does that mean that out of the millions of phasers installed on these engines every year that not a single one will be defective? Of course not. But the bottom line is the pattern failure identified on the earlier models was corrected. Chances are the 2021 will be using the same part number as current production.

I was referring to my current 2018 having the issue, and needing to be cracked open to have it fixed. Also, my wife's 2019 Expedition, which isn't supposed to have the problem, now does. I certainly hope Ford can figure it out by the time the 2021s roll out.

I’m really getting tired of repeating myself on this topic.

As I’ve stated numerous times across countless threads, the issue has already been “figured out” and was corrected on F-150 in July 2018. On Expedition, the revisions were implemented in April of 2019. The revisions include redesigned cam phasers with new part numbers and a new PCM calibration. The revisions have eliminated the pattern/repeat failures that were occurring on the models specified in the service message.
