USPS lost my camera this weekend, but hopefully video coming soon. The service manager rode with me and felt the shudders. He blamed it on the transmission and said Ford needs to release a software update for it. Supposedly their tech hotline showed a bunch of raptors with vibration problems.

I asked about the torque converter and the MAF sensor. He wouldn't help with the torque converter due to no codes and the MAF sensor he said would throw a code.

He couldn't answer why my fuel economy is shit (12-13 mpg around town driving like a granny). I'm using 93. Ford Corporate is calling back again tomorrow for a follow up and I'm going to try checking the transmission fluid in case it is the torque converter.

My service rep recommended maybe going to another dealership but it's far.

If this is your purchasing dealer, you need to have “the talk” with your service manager. This is not some peasant-mobile fiesta, it’s one of the flagship ford performance trucks. You didn’t buy it to be treated like a peasant, so don’t accept being treated like some lower caste member trying to act all important.

Tell him to get off his ass and treat you like a paying customer.

Ford corporate told me to stop using my purchasing dealer so I'm at a different one. The original dealer's GM, sales staff, and service staff were fired/moved due to too many complaints and shady business practices. I had to file police reports and complaints against the first since they took my truck overnight and put 120 miles on it without letting me have it back. Not most ideal situation for sure.

I recently had my torque converter replaced on my 18 SCREW under warranty. The truck wasn’t throwing codes but the service tech spotted leaking transmission fluid when I brought the truck in for an oil change (never had threw any “codes” prior to this visit. If I were you, I’d find a new dealer. It sounds like that service manager came from a Chebby dealership.

Could you tell me the name and location of that dealership? Ford corporate wants to put mine in touch with them to have them talk about how to handle my issues. I am going to capture video tomorrow now that I've found my GoPro. Definitely no symptoms when I coast in neutral at 45 MPH.

Power Ford in Albuquerque, NM. The service advisor, service manager, and technician were all top notch and were able to get me back on the road despite the torque converter being on backorder with no ETA from Ford corporate.

Turns out, the part shipped but the tracking information to the service department wasn’t updated. In short, once the issue was identified, it was fairy easy to get ahold of the replacement part.

However, if the issue/defect is more serious, it may be harder to get a more complex component such as a mechatronic or even a completely new transmission.

FYI, I work in the automotive industry and did a short stint at a transmission manufacturer. If you have any questions or would like to discuss further, I’m more than will to answer your questions to the best of my ability.

Thank you, I tried working with my regional customer service representative and the local dealership, but they're not budging if there isn't a code. Went two more times to the dealership and now we are going to do more ridealong rides with my truck and a new 18. Definitely slipping on the shifts and still shuddering. No issues when coasting in neutral.

Crappy video attached, but my GoPro's suction cup is MIA for a video from the sunroof/windshield. Thanks for the input so far guys!

Now the dealership says it's not worth their time to continue trying to troubleshoot because they think I have a tune on the truck, even though I don't. Nice!

I hate to say this, but you’re almost certainly going to need to file a lemon lawsuit.

This has to be the laziest dealer service department in the history of humanity. How did they dodge warranty work before OBD2?

Unfortunately, this is one of “those problems” that mechanics simply don’t understand enough about to fix. If it were my truck, I’d accumulate the legally required amount of time at the dealer, and have them put in writing ‘unable to fix’. Do not accept a receipt that says ‘cannot duplicate customer problem’, they will use that in court.

once you accumulate the required time, get a lawyer and drop a lawsuit on them. it’s 3-18 months but you continue to keep the truck. They won’t answer for some time, probably about 3-5 months and then they will require you to present the truck to the servicing dealer for a last repair attempt.
You will need a witness for this, possibly an expert witness given the nature of the problem. Post repair, go for a drive. Worst case, they fix the truck, then you have to negotiate for legal expenses. You have a reasonably good chance of getting Ford to pony up given your dealer’s pronouncements to date, but nothing is guaranteed. More than likely, they will present the truck to you after swapping some parts and hoping for the best, and it won’t fix the problem.

Now you wait some more, probably 30-90 more days before they offer you a replacement. Ensure all your fees are covered and you don’t end up on the losing end.

It’s unfortunate, but this is probably where the issue is headed. Best to accept it now and move forward with life, and get it to resolution sooner, rather than drag it out over the course of years - which can happen.

This is my 2011 mustang gt all over again. Except a lot of people knew the transmissions were bad.

Buddy of mine was having the same issue in his limited. Dealer replaced drive shaft and that helped, but never went away completely. He's gone back about 8 times. Now they are trying wheels and axle.
