Anyone ever encountered a senario where one of the led's failed to come on with driving/headlights but would come on when braking?

My second third break light failed today... I only have one red LED lit (center red LED). When I hit the break a second red LED will come on but that is it. One of the red LED's is dim and hardly visible. I guess I am headed back to the dealership for another go of it.

When are you bringing your Raptor in to the dealer, fjcoop? How many miles are on it currently? I'm here to help.

I will be calling them tomorrow. I have 39,467 miles on her. I also have the Ford ESP extended perimun care warranty 100,000 mile with a $100 deductible. The dealer replaced it in mid Feb of this year so I will hope for the best. The third break light seems to be a soft spot on the truck as well as the rear slider and heated seats. All of which I have had issues with. That said the dealership has made good on all accounts thus far.

Thanks for the concern.

You're welcome, fjcoop! It sounds like you have a fantastic dealership, but don't hesitate to give me a shout if you need any help.

Thank you. The truck goes in tomorrow, it should be fine. Maybe $100 deductible. We'll see.

You can get one yourself at tasca for $112 and not much more at Amazon. Not worth the hassle with a dealership if you have to pay $100. I keep a spare. Takes 5 minutes to replace.

Crystal,

I dropped the truck off at Battlefield ford today (see below link). Was told that it is not covered under the original factory warranty. The truck has 39K miles on it. I asked if they would cover the light since they replaced in in Late Feb '15. I was told "no" that a part that is covered under the original factor warranty is only covered until the original warranty runs out even if it was just replaced. Once the original factory warrant expires so does the warranty on the replacement part even if it was replaced a few months earlier.

Ford Service Center | Battlefield Ford Culpeper

I was told that the ESP from Ford (which I have) does not cover "bulbs" I told him I clearly understand that and if it were simply a bulb I would have change it and never brought the truck in in the first place. I also told them that a LED light is not a bulb and not to confuse the two. That the LEDs that are not working are part of the circuit board that cannot be repaired which is the reason they have to order an entire third break light assembly vs. replacing them

I was hopeful that they would simple replace the light since it was replaced this past Feb but was prepared to pay the $100 deductible on the ESP. The cost of the new light from the dealer is $175 (not installed), which is only $75 more then I was thinking it would cost me. Not the end all for me either way.

Here is what really bothers me. This part that was purchased and replace under factory warranty by the dealership only has a 7-month warranty (so I am told). If I purchase the same light (for $175) it comes with a two-year warranty. This seems like a very one-sided deal to me. I am always happy to play by the rules but I expect the playing field to be level.

I have asked them to purchase the part and will pay the $175. I fully expect the third break light to stop working again before the two years is up and will save some money in the long run if it stops working before the two year warranty expires.

Let me know what your thoughts are and if what I have been told is accurate.

Thanks much
