Third Brake Light Options for Raptor

Yes I have one on my truck, awesome light. Was $630 ish all up.

The description says billet aluminum, yet the picture shows a black surround, which I prefer. Is it painted or is there some kind of dark cover on it?

Did the $630 include installation and wiring to the uplifter switches or did you do the electrical work yourself?

It's billet aluminum powder coated satin black. The $630 is for the housing, lights and wiring harness, not installation. We've tried to make this kit as plug and okay as possible for the weekend mechanic.

This. It isn't hard to wire perse - I wired mine to the passthrough wires in the passenger side kickpanel - which you then connect to the live uplifter switches in the engine compartment. This makes it so you don't have to pass any wires through the firewall since Ford did it for you. Anyway, here is a pic of the light uninstalled, as mentioned it is billet and powder coated black.

It is starting to grow on me, so I have a couple of clarifying questions.

On yours, what part lights up when you brake? The three red dots at the bottom? If so, are they bright enough to keep it DOT compliant?

Why the amber lights on each side? It seems like you would want maximum lighting using all white for camping or off-roading, unless you were going to do the two outside ones in red and make them come on when you brake.

EDIT: After reading a couple more lighting threads, I see the ambers are better for cutting the dust. Someone else has reds ones on each side and he said they worked well on his last trail run.

The ambers are in an up switch, used however you like such as chase lights. They only go on with the switch. The white light lights up when you unlock the car just as the oem light does, it also lights up in reverse. I do not have my center light on an upswitch. The led brake lights are bright AF so should pose no issue.

Does anyone have a pointer for a good smoke-gray Third Brake Light option for our Gen 2 Raptors? I used VHT Nite-Shades paint for the light on my Gen 1, but I had to paint it several times due to sun fade. I want to maintain the stock "three red LED" look, while changing the "very" white lens to dark gray.

I found a lot of F150 replacement lights, but none that are specifically listed for the Gen 2 Raptors.

Nite Shades isn't very glossy and will fade if you don't clear coat it. I lightly smoked mine with Nite Shades, clear coated it and wet sanded and buffed it. It would've looked better darker, but I didn't want to lose much light output and I didn't.

Yes the three red dots along the bottom are the running/brake lights, they are 1W each and are plenty bright enough.

Yes amber lights are the best color for dust lights, some people are running reds or other colors but not for use as dust lights. A lot of the event organizers require an amber rear facing dust light also.
