That’s the gear lockout feature. When you hit the paddle or gear selector +/-, the gear display goes away. tap either one again and it comes back. if you double tap -, you lock out 10th gear. tap - again, you lock out 9th gear, and so on. It doesn’t do this as quickly as manual mode shifting.

The gear display disappearing is a common complaint among new users.

Well, you just explained one the things that confused me!

Thanks. Keep 'em coming. I just traded my 2014 for a 2020. Many changes, much to learn.

Sometimes I use the lockout when going down a hill and I want more engine braking. If you use manual mode and downshift the engine revs to match the speed, so going down hill sometimes if you down shift you will actually speed up for a few seconds. If you use the lockout it does not rev match and it helps you slow down.

I use this feature coming down the mountain after skiing all of the time. I read through the manuals the first couple of days after I brought mine home and thought that it was something I'd actually use. I love how it works!

Found this video incredibly helpful. Really enjoy the last piece about the motion sensors.

My favorite thing I discovered about my Raptor is that it dropped my insurance by almost $30/month compared to my Taco

this, I use it all the time when Im in NC. There's one mountain we come down and I can just limit it to third gear and come all the way down doing the speed limit and almost never touch the brakes

As a example....Even though many know this, there is a button on the left rear bed light that allows you to turn on the bed lights from the tailgate.

So as a new owner, I'm looking for secrets about the Raptor that you won't find in the manual.
How else can you turn the bed lights on. That button is the only way I know.
