After almost 8000kms on the tune, it started ping, like a diesel... took to the dealer as I thought it was sth rattle in the drive-train.. turns out to be the pre-igintion (tech said). So I returned to stock, ping gone... any thoughts?

What kind of gas are you running? You can adjust the global spark advance on your tuner. Try backing it off some. Or send some log files to SVC and they'll dial the tune in based on your real world data.

Shell 91 from day one. Emailed Jeff already, see what he says.

I didn't mess with the tuner, just restored stock tune. Noise is now gone. Tech also booked me in to have the truck checked over, so I guess better leave it stock until after.

Just curious, did you flash it back to stock before you took it to the dealer? If yes, did they mention the tune? @Stang is right, sounds like global spark advance.

91 might be iffy on that tune. No problems on 93 here.

No I didn't. Just went in for a quick road test with tech.

Going in for the check over soon, hope the flash won't raise any questions :baby:

But, should I bring the truck in anyways? since restored to stock, there's no more pinging/noise.

Like we've been saying, put the tune back in but with negative spark advance. There is no issue with running a tune with a set octane lower than what you put in the tank. Its when you have a tune set for 91 but run 87, not the best. Not a big deal if tune is set for 87 but you put in 91. So wonder if you do that, if the ping is still gone or not.

But depending on your tuner, probably get those logs and sent to SVC to see what is going on.

91 since day one...

Point is, I have had the tune for over a year, it's only started pinging maybe 2 months ago, 2~3 tanks of gas gone through. Besides the possible gas (I really doubt about that), is it possible that something is really wrong in the engine? Just talking about the possibilities.
