Android with backcountry or Ipad with motionx would work.

Except its highly recommended you have data as well or download the whole UP.

So, this is my first snoball. I'm trying to decide if I should just nut up and get the Lowrance, or if an Android tablet would be fine. Thoughts?

What you have just asked is as timeless as Bud vs Miller, Bears vs Packers and Ford vs Chevy.

Do you have the money for a dedicated GPS that will only be good for one thing? If so, get the lowrance, I did, but I'm also leading a group. If not, get a tablet and the app. Get a mount from Ram Mount. Best mounts out there.

I've been reading that I can import gpx files into most Garmin's. Is that a true statement? If that's the case, that would be a more "middle of the road" option financially. Thoughts on the Garmin route ?

I have backcountry navigator, but I don't have it on a tablet with a sim card.

I tried to use a Garmin Rhino, but could not load all the data on the internal memory for the tracks, and the GPS does not pull the gpx files from a memory card, you can only save to the memory card.

Two weeks from yesterday I will be in Houghton, hopefully it snows..... cause that will be my mini Snoball this year. Detroit to Sault Ste. Marie to Houghton and back.

All on "business" of course.

I loaded my Garmin last year with the route and it just wasn't the same. It still didn't have the off roads on it but would show you a trail of bread crumbs.
I also had a Galaxy Tab 2 and it worked great. Load the maps before going.

^^agreed
I used my garmin Montana last year. It worked, but it wasn't very good. I'm not spending money this year on lowrance. I'll be using my garmin again this year.

So you're coming up here on business the days leading up to November 15th?!? As sexist as this is going to sound, you must be meeting with ladies because no man works the days leading up to 11/15. That's against yooper man code.

I was just in Houghton today and no snow yet. It snows a little most days now though so the first big one is bound to be coming soon.

It is for my wife's work. She has a site visit and two class presentations.

I hunt farm country and shot two 8 points in less than 24 hours last year. I can afford a couple days and still fill the freezer....

Besides, may be I can get some brownie points to go on more Raptor trips later

If anyone is a procrastinator like I am hurry up and book your rooms at the casino, they acted like they are about out of room, (already out of no smoking ones )
