Everyone loves the free market until they don't.

What a world.
Don’t misinterpret market frustration with a hatred of capitalism. All these guys are doing is fighting the battle for a Raptor. At least they’re not fighting over milk for their kids like many do in ****** countries.

kommie?

got you mods. Ha!:p

The adm price of future Raptor trucks reflects the crazy, unpredictable, and unsure future of these models. In 2018 nobody imagined all the crazy that's occurring today. Is it likely to get worse or better in 2023? Many of the dudes writing those Big Checks to get to the front of the line aren't waiting to find out. They want their shiny new toy Now

People have short memories. There was 10-15k ADM in parts of the country on the Gen 2's, and that was with a functioning supply chain.

When the Gen 4 comes out we'll be right back here at the coffee table.

Big proponent of Capitalism and free markets. What is happening to the price of Raptor is due to the market restrictive state specific car dealer franchise laws.

In a free market I would be able to buy my truck directly from Ford and pay at most MSRP.

I used to collect pocket knives. Now when a run of GEC drops, they're sold out at MSRP in less than a minute. And then they hit the secondary market at two or three times that. It's just not worth the hassle, so I stopped buying. Raptors would be similar if all sold at MSRP. No stock, flippers everywhere, and you, the customer, gets to buy used. Be careful what you complain about, it could always be worse.

Honestly I refuse to pay ADM, which is why it took until 2020 for me to buy a Raptor. In April of 2020 people were not buying vehicles because of COVID, so I picked up a Raptor for $3,000 under sticker (at one point that truck had a $5,000 ADM in January of 2019). In 2021 when the used market started to get crazier I bought my TRX for $6,000 off sticker, and that Ram dealer gave me $4,000 more than I paid for the Raptor.

Look- I’m not mad at a dealer for trying to mark up vehicles, it’s just business. I’m just somebody who won’t be their customer. To me it’s about what fits my needs and budget best.

It‘s the flat out slimy dealers I don’t forget. There’s a reason my last three Dodge/Ram vehicles were not bought locally. It had nothing to do with ADM’s.

If the Gen 4 comes out. (updated to reflect the unfortunate reality that there are no guarantees in this life, except death and taxes).
I believe that there will be a pickup in Raptor trim after gen 3. It's too valuable to dump. Look at how they're trying to spread the name around. But. How good will it be off road? Weight is a killer, so EV is off the table. Hybrid? Dunno. Kinda heavy. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Until the gubmint takes its thumb off the scales and lets manufacturers build what customers actually want; this is all theoretical. IF they change CAFE rules, IF they force battery production numbers, IF gas availability changes, IF banks offer reasonable rates, IF union employees don't strike, get laid off, or sent home for the next plandemic...

You would also never pay below MSRP. You never hear of anyone getting a deal on a Tesla, right?

Yes, but only while supply is low....or lower than demand at MSRP. That happens with or without a distributor or retailer in the middle between supplier and customer. Ford can keep prices stable by getting control of supply to properly meet demand at the price point, MSRP, they want to sell at.

So in theory, Ford should be able to maintain prices with a reservation process that gets vehicles to customers out in a timely manner to a point where customers aren't willing to overpay to get the vehicles sooner. If even some are willing to pay extra, with this strategy, impact on those wanting to pay MSRP only is minimal as long as you don't let scalpers buy everything up.
