Enough with the Toyota BS guy, you people are so brainwashed you won’t even acknowledge your own issues. Tundra build quality is anything but “excellent”; panel gaps are a mile wide and the interior is made from playskool grade plastic. Never mind the fact that the frames rot out at the first sign of moisture.

Speaking of paint issues, Toyota can’t even keep paint on their Tacos, and these are not caused by COVID demand, it’s simply poor quality:


Really? A $55k compact pickup has to deal with that crap??
Brainwashed? Hardly. FIL has worked for Toyota for 40 years bro. He’s seen some things. And yes the tacos have had issues. Tundras? Hardly. A couple of million mile tundras rolling around. Meanwhile ford can’t even get a fender flare right on a $80k truck? Cmon man. I get it. You work on them. But go look at the stats comparing fords vs Toyotas in the reliability. But I digress. I’m buying a freakin raptor so what does that tell you? Not trying to bash. Stating facts.

Painted fender flares? On an off road truck? Now THAT was stupid. Ford is making a lot of unforced errors lately.

This is the first I have ever seen/heard of paint peeling off a fender flare on any Raptor, which, unless this becomes a common issue on early Gen 3 trucks, is not at all representative of the brand IMO.

Sucks for the OP though, I would definitely be upset if I were him.

This is an inconvenience that will be fixed under warranty. I had the bumper on my 2020 repainted because of paint chip issues under the headlights. Just one of those things.
A few users had this issue.
I’ve scraped the flares on my Gen2 and it doesn’t seem painted.
Try. Harder. They’re painted. I had to have one replaced and it came unpainted.
Or gen 2 has painted flares. It’s flaked off in a couple of spots.

Not to sound impolite or unwelcoming, but in all seriousness maybe the Raptor isn’t for you. If you have this opinion, obviously a deeply held belief, every little thing that happens with the Rap is going to annoy the living daylights out of you. Not at first, but over time, it will.
in ’09, after Bayliss won WSBK on the 1098R and Ducati brought the road going 1198 out, I bought the S model. It was everything it was made out to be, without question. I had about 3 months until the problems started, 4(?) recalls, busted radiator, 3 voltage regulators, 2 batteries in 3 months, fouled spark plugs, and on, and on. Got rid of it in ’14 - just after the voltage regulator failed again.
You’re going to constantly be evaluating the Raptor and comparing it to your ideal and it just doesn’t sound like the Raptor fits your ideal. If you get one, go forth and enjoy it. I’m just saying that you shouldn’t have to talk yourself into this purchase.

First of all, your up front comment is very refreshing so thanks for that.

I’m not a brand fanboy. I’ve owned chevys, dodges, Hondas and Toyotas. All have their issues and I’m ok with that. Reliability is not my main focus this time around for a truck. Yes I care about it, but I only drive about 5-6k miles/year. I want capability and tech. And the tundra and Silverado are not that. Flirted with ram, but hate their cylinder deactivation crap. (Plus it’s a fiat).

What I find weird about domestic owners is this: oh it’s under warranty so who cares. Hold these manufacturers accountable people! That’s all I’m saying!

The raptor is in the $75k+ market. No detail should go unchecked. No excuses!

I'm going to disagree. What a surprise. :) It's a pickup truck. I've got some body panels that don't exactly line up. Am I stressed about it? No, the only reason I noticed is that I was looking at all the scratches I got when I was out beating on it. So it costs $75k. When it comes to fancy vehicles that's chump change. A F*cking Prius is $30k ...

I absolutely agree with this. I’ve kind of become my parents; I work for the money, so it’s important to me because it’s mine. If I’m going to spend it on something, I expect to get what I paid for, not excuses.

I’m trying to think if I fall into “domestic owner” or “fer'n owner” category. Doing some quick history / math.... ok maybe not so quick... looks like 2 to 1 domestic, and I’m counting bikes too. just under 2 to 1 if you count the UTV I just bought (Yamaha).
Firearms would be a difficult count as well and I’ve found the same tribalistic rationalization among the two enthusiasms. The common denominator is humans. We will do quite a bit to rationalize purchasing decisions we made that turned out poorly or other than desired. OTOH, humans design and make the vehicles we drive and sometimes they don’t do it right, very similar to us end users.

This stinks but it can happen- no, it wasn't rushed- this is a faulty component of paint- likely a Catalyst
You think bad component? I’m asking; not a painter or body shop worker, but I’ve casually duracoated a few things, and learned about improper prep while doing it.

I've worked on everything from Mitsubishi to Porsche, not just Ford. The fact that your FIL has worked for Toyota for 40 years certainly contributes to the bias to your views. Toyota cheerleaders love to pull the high mileage card; the "1 million mile" claims are a farce, yet toyota turns them into a PR stunt. Any vehicle can make it to 1 million miles if you just keep replacing parts, but it's a waste of time and money. The fact that they need to constantly highlight those ridiculous fairytales to try and sell their products is pathetic.

You claim Tundras "hardly" have issues? Lol ok. So when the (current) 2007 model debuted and they were snapping camshafts and blowing engines, that wasn't an issue? The $3500 Air Injection Pumps (AIP) that fail right out of warranty aren't an "issue"? The repeat cam tower oil leaks that require disassembly of the entire top half of the engine aren't an "issue"? The frames and differential housings rusting completely through is not an "issue"? How about the extremely common sticking brake caliper pistons or valve spring failures? Not an "issue"? Some of these ended up as TSBs and were resolved on later models, but the current generation has been on sale for 15 years.

"Go look at the stats"? The stats are clear, Ford is #1 in every single industry. Followed closely by GM/RAM. That includes forestry, agriculture, mining, oil drilling, emergency vehicles, etc. If the tundra was as great as you'd lead people to believe, it would be in the top 3. It doesn't even make the list, because it's a weak pile of junk. Just like the Nissan titan.

You're not "stating facts". You're a brand loyalist and based on your posts I find it hard to believe that you're actually buying a Raptor, because all you do is complain. Factory defects occur regardless of brand, especially with a new model launch. You're living in your own little fantasy world.

I’m sure glad I off-road my truck hard and stopped worrying long ago about cosmetic blemishes. My flares are plenty ****** up from whacking the brush along the way,but you know what **** it that’s what they are for. They aren’t terribly expensive, just sayin. I know it’s a new truck so this is a little different, undoubtedly will be replaced.
