I had a roll-over one time on the freeway, I hydroplaned and slid sideways into the guardrail at 70mph, it hit and threw the truck up in the air landing on the upper edge of the drivers' side doors and roof edge. There is really no structural integrity along the windshield header. When I stopped sliding I was stuck upside down and couldn't reach the seat belt to unlatch it. When the firemen and paramedics got me out they told me that if I had a sunroof in my truck I would have been ground down to my shoulders.

Since then no sunroofs for me.IMGP0216.JPG

If your going to use the truck Offroad do not get a sunroof.
Not sure about your area but unless I do a custom order seems like 90% of raptors im finding on lots have the sunroof option. Probably dealers get allocation & load up on options they think people will want to drive price up.

If it’s that common a problem I may see if the dealer can swap for another truck w/o one- but like I said I also planned on a 100k warranty anyhow just due to the cost of the vehicle & it’s my first twin turbo ford.

I love the sunroof on my 18 and I haven't had any problems. I also got 70% 3M crystalline tint on it to keep the heat out but allow me to always keep the shade open. I live in Las Vegas and never had to close the shade, even during the summer.

My '17 has a moonroof...and I take that truck everywhere.

It was stuck in an open position last year, on one of the coldest possible days; thank FSM for heated seats as I drove her down to Ford to fix!

So if you get one, just be aware, it can do some really stupid shit, but for the most part, it's one of my favorite features. Nothing quite like being able to stand on my console to get a better view when at the top of a trail.

My 017 had leaks on that roof but there was a recall and it fixed everything
My 018 has it and no issues!

If you live where it is cold most of the time, don't tint. If you live in Texas like I do, the ceramic based tint works great!

I live in MA where it can (and will) get to 90-100F for 6 week stretches & can also be -5-15F for 6 weeks at a time too lol! I think I will wind up leaving the shade open all the time since the cab just feels much darker/cramped w/ it shut especially w/ my truck being black, I am thinking I'll shoot for something lighter than "limo tint" 5% but darker than your typical wide window legal tint of 35% for sure - will ask the shop to try and do 10-20% or the equivalent.

Thanks for the replies. I took the truck through its first touchless wash yesterday & didn't notice anything w/ the high pressure water running directly over the sunroof.

I do plan on cleaning/lubing the weatherstripping every 3-4 months - really just from using the vent function, don't think I'll be fully opening it very often so rails shouldn't get too dirty too often.
