Crap, happened again this morning, twice! just pulled out of the driveway and headlights flash again, everything goes black and MFT (reboots?) with the "performing scheduled maintenance" message. Then less then five minutes later, does it again! I'm going to forward this to the Ford rep who monitors this Forum, just to document the occurrences. I hope this doesn't keep occurring often.

Hey everyone,

To ensure proper performance, your MyFord Touch system may occasionally reset itself. When this happens, you will see a "Performing Scheduled Maintenance" message on your vehicle's touchscreen display (like the one mentioned in this thread).

This message will also appear if you're performing a master reset to the system: How to Perform a Master Reset | MyFord Touch | Ford.com

If you're noticing this screen appearing multiple times in one day, this is not normal and I recommend troubleshooting. First, make sure you're running the latest software by logging in at: SYNC Technology | SYNC Support | Ford.com Next, perform the master reset I mentioned earlier.

Try to pay attention to when this happens. If this screen is only appearing when a certain device is connected, the phone/media players may be causing this message to pop up more frequently. If this is the case, try soft resetting the device (normally done by removing/replacing the battery) and connecting it again. Check to see if there is a difference in behavior.

If the above steps do not take care of this, I recommend scheduling an appointment with your dealership so they can investigate further.

Thanks for the feedback Kim, as I mentioned in my PM, I recently started using the OBDLink MX adapter with the Dash Command app on my iPhone. I have unplugged the adapter and will see how things go the next few days. If everything is stable I'll plug it back in a see if the problem reoccurs. I think the OBDLink has a reset button, may try that as well as your suggestion of checking the software version, updating if needed and doing a master reset. I'll let you know how things go.

Thanks again for your support!

Wouldn't you know it, after reading this thread last night, mine does the reset for the first time today (truck is 11 months old). Started it up, noticed the backup camera wasn't on, then it goes into the "Sync Performing scheduled system maintenance..." screen. Worked fine after it finished.

All Microsoft does is provide the platform. Just like Apple, they supply the platform too with their iOS. Its the crappy programmers at Ford or who they outsource to who is at fault for the system to reset or flaky because THEY wrote the apps, not Microsoft.

Blaming the platform is like saying its AppleCrap problems because Tapatalk crashed again. Apps crash on Windows, Apple and Android including Linux. Programmers are to blame for most of these problems but not always.

Went and posted this issue on the OBDLink MX Forum. The moderator suggested I plug the adapter in but don't launch the Dash Command app on my iPhone to see if the adapter causes an issue by itself. So, I have a few tests to run before I isolate the issue. Will post my findings as things progress.

Let me know if this becomes a common thing, The Car Stereo Company. For now, I don't recommend performing any further troubleshooting. It sounds like you were able to get it functioning properly again.

You're welcome. Judging from your other comments, it seems that you're narrowing down the cause of this issue. I look forward to hearing your findings. Keep us all posted!

Hey TheWolf,

It sounds like your MyFord Touch system is working as intended. This screen is a type of preventative maintenance that will occur once in a while. If you begin noticing it more often, let me know.
