Swapping shocks

I've changed out shocks before. I don't expect issues...besides the height. Im obviously going to have to get a taller jack and stands. However looking at jack stands and the height of this beast...is this even possible without a lift? I don't have access to one and I guess I could take it to a shop however I prefer to do it myself. Anyone done this without a lift?

As long as you have a pair of tall jack stands and a jack with an extension.(wooden block, ahem), it's do-able. Took me and a very patient friend 6 hours so make a day of it.

We got tired and flipped a bracket which rubbed one wheel until I fixed it 3 miles later.

The rear axle also wants to rotate and roll away so you will def need some help.

I just did a front spring swap on mine with a floor jack & stands. You will need some taller than normal car stands though. I had a heavy duty set from China Depot (Harbor Freight) that were cheap and worked fine.

You will need some big metric sockets to get the bottom shock bolt out. Size of the nut is 29mm. If you dont have them, I was able to get a 1,1/16 socket on the head of the bolt and a crescent on the nut through the slot in the LCA. 13/16 will fit the upper ball joints and tie rod ends.

In the last two weeks I've pulled the front shocks and swapped rear leaf springs. I have one floor jack two jack stands and a ton of wood blocks. It's definitely doable. That lower shock bolt mentioned has about 400 pounds of torque on it so bring a cheater pipe lol

While we're on the subject does anyone know the torque specs for the shocks? I think I've seen the thread for torque specs on our truck...I'll go hunt them now.
