Correct. From Merriam-Webster:
" 3) moot (adjective)
1 a: open to question
b: subject to discussion"
When the 2012 Raptors hit the ground we'll have more to discuss. And when FoMoCo wants reduce production costs and build F150 frames from full length blanks, I'll be delighted to decoil a trial order.
Fully lab certified, tight gauge tolerance, 945 YLK 216" +/- .032", finished width +/- .010". No internal stresses, ready for the laser table and hydroforming.
MOOT: also "of little or no practical value". Again, the frame is more than strong enough. LET ME TRY AGAIN WITH SMALLER WORDS:
THE FORCES ARE IN THE 100's of TONS. Lab certification, and nice thickness tolerance, and heat treatment will mean fuckall when your axle pancakes your frame from below when you drive like an idiot.
You could make it out of ungodmium, reinforce it with unobtanium, have NASA and SEMA certify the ******* thing, and still **** it all up under the conditions that were in the Raptor run.
Thank God that Ford
is managing production costs, I got a sweet ride for $38k, AND despite punishing it severely, have only bent the skidplate. Effing spectacular. You don't like it? SELL IT!
I agree that the Raptor isn't perfect, and it does have some spots that can be improved upon (namely the door stop detents that garrantee door dings). But stop blathering about poor design and cost reduction on something that performs as designed, and serves 99% of costomers just fine (and 100% of those who know their vehicle limits).
