almost certainly a broken moonroof track mechanism. Typically, after a period of non-use, the rubber seals will stick to the glass with enough resistance that the glass movement bends and then ultimately breaks the plastic guides - kind of the ‘fuse’ of the system. If the moon roof is closed, and sealed, leave it closed and sealed!
It’s possible that there’s debris in the tracks preventing the glass movement. It is possible to repair as an end user, but it’s outside my wheel house.
There’s 2 generally accepted ways to prevent this from happening.
1) always open the moon roof to the vent position FIRST, then close, then open rearward.
2) lube the rubber / glass mating surfaces with Ford’s “Krytox” grease.
This happened to me as well and I had to have the track replaced. If you get ‘works’ maintenance done at the stealership, ask them to lube the moonroof seals. I realize this doesn’t help now, but hopefully you won’t have a repeat problem.
