Today's update:

Ford customer care called me this afternoon to provide an update. They say they have been working with the SA and she provided them everything they needed, including pictures. The SA also confirmed she felt there was NO IMPACT and that the crack was due to stress and possibly started from the inside (whatever that means). They will submit everything to the "warranty team" and get back to me either on or before Friday of this week. It'll have been in the shop for 8 days at that point.

It sounds like it’s being sorted and you have a back up plan using insurance to get it fixed.

while it sucks to be without the raptor, shit happens.

with all due respect, you’re kinds coming off a bit salty. I get it, but no one died and it’s getting handled.

mine took over a month to get sorted between waiting for parts etc but it got handled.

8 days for a call back about a repair, let’s be honest, isn’t bad and ford didn’t really get involved until yesterday so you’re looking at 5 days which is pretty good.

you can’t blame Ford or a weekend for the delay. You can blame autonation.

Update:

Ford Customer Care reached out today. The tech cannot find a point of beginning (POB) for the damage. Ford corporate/warranty says "this is not possible, glass does not shatter like that." In any case, they suspect possibly something could be amiss with the sunroof track, so they're going to take a look at this. This is one way around Ford not covering it because, if the track is somehow defective, then the glass technically is secondary damage caused by the failed part and would be covered by warranty. The other option they are offering is a combination of goodwill and me paying a small "deductible" (couple hundred bucks). The dealership removed the glass today and is proceeding with the repair. I will hear a final determination Monday or Tuesday. In the meantime, I've attached photos the dealership sent to Ford.

So by the same logic, if your oil pump is defective and the engine seizes, Ford will replace the oil pump and you're on your own for the engine? That's ridiculous.

No. If the engine wasn't covered but the oil pump was, and THAT caused the engine to seize, then they would warrant both because the engine is downstream from the faulty oil pump...the engine wouldn't have seized otherwise. That's how they see it.

Tell them defective glass will shatter like that. Tell them to replace it.

You do not "tell" Ford to do anything. They'll do it if they want and "screw you, come get your car and good luck buddy", if they don't. All you can do is work and negotiate with them to get the best possible result.

I hear ya. Tough situation. Tempered glass is really strong but if it has a minor edge imperfection and is deflected or slightly tweaked in a perfect direction, it will shatter.
