I am experiencing some strange behaviors from my transmission when my truck is started after sitting overnight.

When my truck is cold or lets say after it has set overnight, I go out and start and begin to drive down the street, the transmission lunges and releases like its shifting gears. I watch the gauge and it never shows that the gears are changing.

I try a slow steady acceleration and stay below 20mph down the street for 1/4 - 1/2 mile. It feels like its changing gears 1st to 2nd and 2nd to first and lunging and jerking the whole time.

After about the first mile it stops. When the engine is warm and I start out it does not do this. But, If I let the truck sit and warm up for several minutes before driving, it still does this. It happens every single time when its a cold start. (Its 80 degrees so I don't mean cold temps just a cold motor.)

My wife thought I was playing around with the gas pedal until I let her drive and see that I have no control over it lunging.

Any one experienced this or heard of this before please? I only have about 1500 miles on it so far.

i know its 80 degrees, but the trans opeartors around 175 normally.

I have been told it could also be the throttle body too. I don't know yet I haven't had a chance to take it in. But after about a mile of driving it goes away.

Let me know if you decide to take it in, LastLight. What's the model year/mileage of your truck?

Thanks for following up, Dave. Once you're ready to head in to your dealer, send a PM my way and I'll be sure to push this up the line to your regional customer service manager. All I'll need to make this happen is your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership.

How weird is that. My new Raptor does the EXACT same thing. Identical to your description. Mine has 1029 miles on it. I'm here in Arkansas so the temps are about the same as well. Just like yours , once it is warmed up, no issues. Throttle is VERY sensitive on the first startup drive .

Are you purposely trying to keep it below 20 mph to exhibit this behavior?

My '14 does this in the morning when I first start out.

My suggestion is get it up above 20 mph and get to 3rd.
