Do you have the AC on during this time?

This is why my plans are to put a stock sized intercooler in the grill that’s maybe half as tall as the FullRace/Cobb versions.

Who makes a FMIC that is half the size of a FullRace/Cobb IC?????

I was going to message you back on our private message conversation (thanks for the info by the way), but I will just ask on here. What exactly is overheating: radiator, transmission, or both?

No problem man, Yes sir my overheating issue in only with radiator my trans is good for now but after the 37's there is a slight heat raise if I am not airing my tires out.

I'm probably not the best guy to ask about ****/water injection; I understand the principles of those systems but I'm not very familiar with specific applications.

Once the ambient temps cool off, I would try the higher octane fuel first and see how it responds. Do you have ForScan available to reset KAM? The PCM is quick to learn lower octane, but not nearly as quick to learn when higher octane is added. KAM reset will start the PCM off from a clean slate, so you won't get skewed results due to the PCM pulling timing based on the expected results of the previous fuel used.

Got you and yes I do have access ForScan and I will try this Kam in 3 months as the ambient will not cool off before 3 months.

Thanks for the tip.

Yesterday hit 110 deg in my part of Arizona , Density altitude was like 4900 ft . Truck felt so doggy bet it was down at least 50 hp maybe more. If i would of test drove this truck in dead heat of summer i might have had 2nd thoughts LOL. Runs good still in the mornings , i'm sure stock is very conservative on timing in boost in the heat , see how it does when it hits 120 .

I have had my 2018 in ambient real air temps north of 120 on many occasions, at certain times of the year, here at the house, highs over 110 in the shade are normal for days or weeks on end, and on those days several valleys around here (including Death Valley) will push over 120 with ease. One of my work sites typically runs 8+ degrees higher than the temps at my house. The truck seems to handle it just fine. Sure, down a little on power as any engine is in the higher temps, but never really an issue. I have had it in 4 Lo for hours at a time in those temps, I have had it at highway speeds, and I have played around on sand dunes.

Ok well I just installed my Cobb FMIC Wednesday and went out to Phonix for the weekend. Today I just came home about 105 1-5:30 hottest part of the day and the truck ran like a beast all the way! I did 85-100 the whole way with tons of power no heat soak. No temp issues stayed where it always did, I hit Palm Springs and came up the 74. Usually she gets tired and doggy the first part until I hit the cool mountain air about 3000ft but now she stormed right up 70+ with plenty in reserve; If I’m not going to have heat issues how hard I drive it I don’t think you flatlanders will have any problems with this setup. Disclaimer: I drive my truck harder than most on here (I’m not saving it for anyone) so if you live in the desert you will get more benefits than most. Also with the removal of the radiator shutter system i think there is probably more airflow through the grill than before offsetting the intercooler size marginally. I think that with the ability to now have continuous power this is probably one of my favorite mods.

This is why my plans are to put a stock sized intercooler in the grill that’s maybe half as tall as the FullRace/Cobb versions. This will provide uninterrupted flow to the tranny cooler and half the radiator/AC condenser while still providing better performance than the stock IC (and a spot to mount a winch). I’m also hoping that the size being similar will mean that the stock tune will be a good fit. Many OEM cars are built this way. Should also be more warranty friendly than the Cobb.

I also noticed that Shelby was testing a front mount IC like the Cobb version but ultimately left the IC in its stock location for the production version. They specifically mention driving in sand in the middle East with the AC on. I think this is a very stressing case - high throttle at low speed with high drag.

I have tried both ways and with AC off the heat raise in a slower manner vs having my AC on.

Unfortunately, it will be a custom intercooler maybe with Cobb or Full Race pipes. I’m hoping to find an off the intercooler that fits but if not, I’ll get an off the shelf core with custom end tanks. It would be nice if someone offered one for those of us who are relocating the intercooler for a winch and want to be fairly warranty compliant (and be stock tune compatible and almost certainly deliver better engine cooling)

I don’t think anyone is having trouble under these conditions. You are going at higher speeds and have significant airflow going through the heat exchanger stack.

The OP on the other hand is going far slower and using far more throttle to do it. Sand is the most stressing situation for heat dissipation. Very high load, often very high ambient temps and very slow speeds meaning not much airflow through the IC/AC condenser/Radiator.

Didn’t you have a 14 Tremor Ecoboost too? How did that perform in its stock configuration compared to the Gen 2 Raptor in the heat?

Yes tremor had wagner , 180 thermostat , unleashed race tune no cats. temps never got above 205 maybe 210 on a long pull ,AIR I2 temps were 140 , in 120 deg ambient , It didn't seem as sluggish . I know the DA has a lot to do with it also. Seems raptor stock tune pulls a fair amount of timing . I will be getting my Garret put on next few weeks. Then put cobb tune on.
