SPD Equal Length Resonator Delete (Gen3-like trombone) for Gen2s

It isn’t a bad install. I did mine a couple of weeks ago, and it look about 2 hours, including a break to stop and cuss at the rear tailpipes that really didn’t want to come loose from the muffler.

I have the SPD downpipe with stock muffler, and it sounds very good at high throttle. There is some drone cruising. I would best describe it as “very shoutey” at partial throttle, which I’ve heard about the Ford GT’s stock exhaust. I towed a boat (7k lbs including trailer) back from Boston over the mountains into Vermont, and the drone / cabin noise was almost too much to handle.

How did you end up getting the tailpipes loose?

I’ve done the install twice now so might be able to help. I am removing it from the downpipes of those clamps and then removing the clamps in front of the muffler to remove the resonator section. I remove the hanger from the frame in front of the muffler (to give more movement) and remove the two hangers on the tailpipe ends by the bumper then push back the muffler and tailpipe as one section. I do not remove the tailpipe section from the muffler.

I’ve done the install twice now so might be able to help. I am removing it from the downpipes of those clamps and then removing the clamps in front of the muffler to remove the resonator section. I remove the hanger from the frame in front of the muffler (to give more movement) and remove the two hangers on the tailpipe ends by the bumper then push back the muffler and tailpipe as one section. I do not remove the tailpipe section from the muffler.

How rusted was your exhaust? Mine looks like a typical 5 year rust belt truck.

Exactly, I took the muffler off the hanger to get there.

You got me there. I am in the rust belt too but not up north where you are. I did use PB Blaster before I started and let it soak for about an hour. Plus my 2020 only has 14k miles so I know that makes a difference. I laid on my back, holding the resonator and used both feet to push on the muffler (kick it a few times too) while I wiggled the resonator section loose. Removing that hanger really helps on the wiggling.

Plus my 2020 only has 14k miles so I know that makes a difference. Yeah. My 17 has 40k. Maybe I’ll try it again some night this week.

hmm - SPD says no drone, that's not good - I wonder if the downpipes make a difference compared to stock for resonance

I have SPD turbo adapters, SPD downpipes, SPD trombone, Factory Muffler, & AWE tailpipes and no drone. But I don't quite have 1K miles on the trombone yet.
