GEN 2 Spark Plug Change - How Often?

How often are you guys changing your spark plugs? I have the MPT 93PRX with trans tune on my Rap. Today when accelerating while getting on the freeway the truck threw a gear for lack of a better term and revved up pretty high while no longer accelerating. Took my foot off the gas and re-applied and it was fine. Did this twice. Limp mode without throwing the check engine light and didn’t have to be reset by pulling truck over and turning it off and then back on. Called MPT and they are recommending a spark plug change. Recommending a change every 10K miles on all ecoboosts not just the Raptor. Does this sound about right?

Every 10K! Haven’t heard that one yet. Why? Did they elaborate or just throw that at you because they are punting? Why would your plugs be shot at 10K?

The shit if I know. He said the eco’s are hard on plugs. Their website says it’s recommended every 10-15K miles, every other oil change! He said it’s recommended on all ecoboost engines not just the Raptors.

That’s new to me, I put 35k on my Lariat before picking up my Rap and that baby ran like a top. I have 12k on the Rap now and running like a bat out of -well you know-I’m looking at changing them around 50 if no problems. Can’t see wasting good stuff for someone’s opinion.

I’m not sure if they recommend that due to the higher performance of the tune or what. It’s not like they benefit from recommending it to me. I was just shocked.

How many miles are on your truck and how long have you had the MPT 93 PRX?

My 2018 has 11K miles and I have had the MPT 93 PRX for 9K of those miles. I swapped my plugs out for the SP542s when I added the tune, so maybe the colder plugs will last a little longer than 10K miles for me.

Your symptoms don’t match up to the proposed remedy here. I’d be asking more questions, but that’s just me.

I am. Emailing support about what happened as he suggested. My truck didn’t go into the “limp mode” that other owners have experienced and described. Felt like a gearing issue to me.

That’s crazy, I wonder where they got that recommendation from. Personally I have had two F150s with the 3.5 ecoboost as work trucks and both went past 100k without issue or plug changes. Our fleet turns the trucks in at 100k but both ran perfect. And that combined 200k included a lot of extended (6+ hours) idle time sessions. I’ve had two personal trucks with the 3.5 ecoboost and neither had issues at trade in with 20-25k.
