Spare tire truck bed mount

I'm looking at bed mounts for spare tire but was wondering if it's necessary? Any one just wratchet strap a tire down and call it good? If not is any mount better than the next? Plan on attending Texas RR and maybe couple other off road runs, truck will remain mostly stock. Appreciate advice/input

Some guys just mount some D rings to the bed bolts and strap it down that way.
