Now I know why you set this up for this weekend. Engelbert Humperdink is playing at the Silver Legacy. Are we getting a group rate on that too?

Went out with tbone and MB Rap to prerun day 2 last weekend. It was an adventure say the least. We decided to run the route in reverse so we started in South Lake Tahoe. The first hour went smoothly and the views were beautiful.

We finished up the forest road heading out of South Lake and began climbing up the next forest services road. All was going well and I was really please with the road as it allowed us to open up the trucks a bit more. We then came upon a turn on the side of the mountain that was surrounded by a bunch of shrubs and small trees which were growing due to a small water runoff. I began navigating the turn but was unable to clear a small tree on the right side of my truck. About this time MB Rap alerted me over the radio that a hiker we just past told him there had been a rock slide not to far ahead and that the road was impassible. I decided to back up since it didn't make sense to risk damage to my truck since we'd be turning around anyway. Unfortunately, my truck was bottoming out on a large embedded bolder in the road and I was getting hung up on my trailer hitch. I pulled forward to re-position my reverse angle. What I didn't realize at this time was that the right side of the road was pretty slick and muddy from the run off so my right side of my axle started sliding off the road on my second attempt. Now I was stuck, I could not pull forward due the tree and I could not continue to reverse as my truck would slide of the side of the mountain which had about a 600-700 foot drop.

Unfortunately these pictures don't show the drop but you see how tight it is.

Lucky for me tbone has a winch otherwise I was SOL. Only problem was there were no immediate lateral anchor points and tbone could not get an angle that would get me out of my situation. My only option was to climb up the hill into the very very thick brush and hope I could find an appropriate anchor point. This was a lot of fun, I have scratches all over my arms, legs, and 3 on my face from the climb. Which was really great as I had 3 interviews this week for a new job. I'm just happy there wasn't poison oak. Anyhow, I found a tree to anchor to about 20 hards up. I hooked up my snatch strap and ran it back down. We then ran tbone's winch line through it in order to pull laterally. We made slight progress but the truck just wasn't moving much and I felt the line might not support much more. We decided to keep tention on the winch line and use MB Rap's hi-lift to lift the rear slightly and then apply more tention via the winch. Thank god as it worked. Each time the truck would "fall" over to the left as we applied tention. We had to do this about 3 times but finally we got the truck back on track.

You can see the hi-lift on the ground after successful pull.

We then carefully pulled forward and I was able to make a very tight uturn. It really pays to be prepared as I didn't see this coming at all. These truck are so damn big and it can be really tough to gage whether the truck will clear. I thought I would easily clear the turn but it wasn't until I was in it that I realized how tight it was.

We then headed into Carson City and found the next leg. The route was slow going and very bumpy. Not a lot of fun but did offer some great views

We then got into Virginia City

Found our next leg and headed out. At first I was really excited as this road allowed us to really open up our trucks at the beginning. Unfortunately it quickly deteriorated into a very bumpy and forced us to move very slowly. We crept along at about 12mph for the next hour or two with a challenging hill climb with bunch of boulders. The views were great and we got to see some wild horses.

All in all, it was a great adventure and it was fun but I would not do this route again. I'm hoping to keep the finish in South Lake Tahoe but we may have to do a loop out of Reno. Either way it will be fun. I'll post up when I get the new route figured out for day 2.

it was a fun prerun i had a blast even though going 12 over rocks gets old after the first 2 hours of it but i finally got to use my synthetic cord for my winch and i have to say it worked out really well even though we had to get a little creative with how we where going to unstuck bigg50. also the only damage that happoned was caused by us and we could have prevented it.
