I am going to be out in South Dakota in three weeks (from Wisconsin) and had a great idea given to me by my wife. She asked if there are any "desert like" places we can take our raptor too to feel a little bit what you guys feel down south. Anyone know or have done any good runs out there?

We are staying in Keystone and Deadwood for a few nights each, but will be all over the place I am sure.

The truck is basically stock when it comes to off-roading abilities, so lead me in the direction capable for stock raptor setup.

Thanks everyone!

Send me an Emial at [email protected] and I will send you a google earth KMZ file . If you have a table and the motionX application you can navigate a number of routes. Also reach out to IRONSIDE on the forum, he lives in that area and runs those trail quite a bit, he is a great guy.

Great! Looks like I have some research to do on stuff.

You may laugh, but it's true. Those fields will be the closest you get to " desert running".

A few very important things to know:

1) on the public lands, you can go through the gates, but make sure you put them back up after you go through them. Also leather gloves are recommended when handling the gates.

2) you will need park passes / ORV pass. Order these in advance or get them at the ranger offices.

3) we may have some extra maps around. We just moved, so let me check.

4) as others have said, get ahold of ironside (Josh), he might even run with you a day.

5) have fun, be safe. Get a GPS system, it is easy to make a wrong turn up there.

Hey KK,

Big Blue is right, that plague trail will be your best bet and safest to run alone.

How squeamish/motion sick does the wife get? Our Grassland trail might also be a possibility. The end is gnarly.

I wouldn't recommend you doing Huck's creek crossing trail by yourself. Even though it should be dryer now, its still in the middle of no-where with no cell service.

Here is a quick preview video for you...

SDBR folks, don't yell at me. The video is coming. I am at the point where I just need to add music and effects, and I promise it will be worth the wait.:wizcow:

EDIT: Also as far as maps go, you'll want to buy this http://www.blackhillsparks.org/buffalo-gap-national-grasslands-map-2006/
and print the black hills ones or contact/pick one up at a Ranger station. http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/blackhills/maps-pubs/?cid=STELPRDB5203036

The commentary is some of the best parts and part of the reason I've been having so much trouble. How do you take 6 hours of awesomeness and cut it down to what people will actually watch..:Jedi:
