Buffalo Gap - Self Guided - Sept 2013

So I finally found the few photos that I had on the self toured Buffalo Gap Grasslands as I didn't have my truck until June. Here are some of them. I am sure for those that did get to go on the run, it will bring back some of the same spots you all had fun in.

Thanks to all for the help on some maps and ideas where to go when I took a trip to SD in Sept 2013! It was actually quite easy to follow the maps using my iPhone and Google Map files.

Keystone, SD - Short offroad - Sept 2013

While out in SD and doing the self Buffalo run, I also hit what looks to be Tepee Gulch just outside of Keystone. Short off road, but much different terrain than the grasslands were. Some of the areas were pretty tight with trees, but I got through it without any major branches hitting.

I was quite impressed how well the maps worked in Avenza PDF Maps. It was so easy to follow turns, etc. Highly recommended to download the maps and app if you are going to do those trails.

I wasn't going all the fast, as I had the in-laws with as it wasn't originally planned for an off roading trip. I was lucky to convince them to go, but in the end even the parents had a good time. The Oh Shit handles in the back got a work out I am sure.

I didn't get a picture of the one larger, steeper hill climb (anyone remember that one?)... that's when they all said "so where do we go around that", as I accelerated. :)

Wilson, Joe and i couldn't stop laughing when you braked at the top of that one. We had a heads up on it since we ran it the previous day.

I like in Lugs video when Molly asked if she could just walk up the 19 degree hill..lol

Glad you had fun and were able to run some of those trails kkitowski

^that's great. Yeah, that hill climb was about 19 deg. on the gauge cluster indicator. Lol...

So I can never remember the correlation between grade and degree, but here is a good reference. Looks to be just shy of a 40% grade. Sure seemed like it was more than 19 degrees, but I will go with what you said, as I am pretty sure I was wondering what was at the top of the hill more than watching the gauge cluster. :) I remember thinking I was glad to have front camera cresting that hill.

no that one was a slow descent we could see that one come up. I'm talking about the one in the pic before the real technical part I was trying to catch up after taking a leak and was in the back with Joe and Nicole.
