Thanks BS :)

So lemme understand this...

EcoBoost twin turbo V6..........? (size)..........~400 HP..........>400 TQ..........>23 MPG (hwy)..........16 MPG (local)

Boss V-8 ..........6.2 L..........411 HP..........434 TQ..........? (16 my est) ..........12 (my est)

"Coyote" V-8 ..........5.0..........412 HP..........390 TQ.......... ?..........? (HP & TQ in Mustang)

Powerstroke ..........6.7..........400 HP..........725 TQ.......... ?..........?

I really like all these motors but I'm not sure about the "strategy".

Ford's going to use the Coyote as the "base motor"?

I've read the EcoBoost can handle towing...

I guess the 6.2 will be "THE motor for the Super Dutys (at least) for those who don't want to step up to the cost of the 6.7

Like I said before, the Ecoboost is probably the best engine any NA manufacturer has produced in the last 30 years. Using it, and its derivatives in product is the logical step, and I am glad Ford is going to do it.

The 2011 Super Duties have been pouring onto dealer lots w/ the 6.2 for a couple months. It's the only gas engine you can get.

The 5.0 will probably be a detuned version of the Mustang engine....maybe 370HP??? Kind of like the Super Duty has a detuned version of the 6.2. Designed more for haulin loads not haulin a$$!!

I have read somewhere that Ford will be making the 6.2 an option for the limited edition...Harley and Raptor and maybe some Platinum models.

I am assuming the EcoBoost will be an upgrade available across the line on the F150.

I believe 2012 Ford will have a 4 cyl EcoBoost out and will be offering that in the XL F150 2wd as a high mpg option(28mpg?) to replace the Ranger.

There are always going to be those guys that won't buy a 6 cyl truck engine no matter what kind of numbers it puts out but it looks like Ford is moving in FI direction across the board. Who knows if this works out the way Ford is hoping maybe we can see a twin turbo V8 in some sort of cobra/lightning??

Dan... I am sure you remember I created a really long post on the other forum questioning the need of the 6.2 in the raptor...

As I surmised, the 5.0 would be a cheaper yet approximately equivalent option, and the 3.6 would be (and I am guessing here) equally priced but more potent option...

It (the 3.6) is IMHO going to be a flat out better motor in this application: towing is a non issue (specialized suspension precludes heavy loads), it weighs less, gets better gas mileage and TT setups tend to make ridiculous torque across a broad spectrum (leads to very impressive HP numbers if that sort of thing matters to you).

WOW I am kind of confused but when am I not. I just wonder is FORD going to use the 3.5 EB in the production Raptor? Then why did they use the 6.2 in the Raptor? Is it because they used it in the Baja 1000? As you all see I don't keep up on all of this mainly because I don't have time to, or better explained, Don't take the time to keep up on it. It is all interesting though to see what all they can do with smaller engines vs. bigger engines. To be honest with you though, I went with the 5.4 because 1. I didn't want to wait. 2. Because that engine has been around for a while and it really is a strong engine. I really don't know why FORD is getting rid of it, it would be interesting to hear why. Only because I am curious, It is really good to see FORD go forward and make changes for the better.

From what it seems to be for right now the only limiting factor of the 6.2L and the 3.5EB is the chassis its in. The limits of the mod motors have been found long ago. Despite the spy shots of the 5.0 in the F-150 I honestly see it going the way of LSX and only being a performance motor.

LSX?

The mod motor is just at the end of its useful like... it has been out since 1991... that is a long time for a modern motor (the GM LS motors by comparison were introduced in 1997)...

They are getting rid of it becuase this family of engines has been around for 14 years...a little long in the tooth.

On another note does anyone remeber the back and forth of the BOSS engine...Ford was going to make then they weren't then they were etc...maybe the reason for all the back and forth was because of such a limited life span in the long term picture. Maybe they don't plan on keeping it around for more than 3 4 or 5 years??? Only time will tell but I'm excited for all the new things Ford is bringing to the game!!!
