True. "Valet" key limits access to some things on most vehicles, but there is no speed limited key for Raptors. Only on a Bugatti Veyron.
I'm no expert but it does sound like there is:

The available MyKey feature allows you to configure one or more of your Ford keys to control your vehicle’s safety settings, even when you aren’t behind the wheel. Whether you’re trying to keep a teenage driver safe or reinforce better driving habits for another family member, this video shows how to use MyKey to set your vehicle’s maximum speed, radio volume limit or seatbelt alerts.

And welcome @gusser

For 2010 and 11's i believe...

In short.....electronics go brrrrrrrrr and flake out and the trans shifts into 1st. Not an ideal outcome at speed.

It was a recall, check to see if this has been addressed on this truck. If not I dont think it is a hard fix, little pricey and last I heard the part was way backordered
The Ford dealership had it scheduled to be done yesterday. The carfax had an alert on this recall as open with a big down/con arrow. The dealer already had it scheduled before I asked. It's a safety recall on Ford's dime. I don't expect I'll get any more freebies though. :uhoh2: .. Thanks for the info! :happy107:

There are two types of keys. One has the lock/unlock and remote start functions and the other is a plain key that unlocks and starts tje truck manually. Also they might be thinking about the MyKey stuff that limits the speed and various other functions. MyKey allows you to program keys with restricted vehicle modes that promote good driving habits. All but one of your keys can be configured in a restricted mode. The keys that remain unprogrammed are referred to as administrator or admin keys.
Good info. I'm sure the sales guy will figure it out. They are making ecery effort to make it right.
Thank you.

that is one of the end results of the lead frame issue. shifting into first at highway speed. you can check to see if the work has been done on that truck. if it has, then there shouldnt be any problems.
It was not but it should have been completed yesterday as it was scheduled to be done at the Local Ford Dealership. Considering the potential risk, I am amazed that none of the 3 previous owners had it done... the original owner had it for 9 years and lived here in CT. He had it serviced at the Ford dealership for most of that time... go figure....Thanks for your input. :happy107:

And welcome @gusser
The salesman is young but very auto-savvy... it's clear something has been done to the Key to limit the speed. A very visible callout somewhere on the dash confirms, stating something like "Warning: Speed limited to 70mph". As he said, he can't be selling a powerful truck like this Raptor and expect the buyer to be happy with a speed limit of 70. Especially if it's me! :burnout: I think you're onto something there RogueClimber. Thanks for your input. Appreciated.:happy107:
I will pass on what they found out on the forum.

Welcome. I give you a lot of credit taking this on.
Thanks for the Welcome MDJAK. Appreciated, and thanks to everyone else who offered welcome greetings and my apologies if I didn't response with anything other than a "like" and if I missed anyone.

Appreciate also the "credit for taking this on". It's funny you mentioned that...
I'm sure my wife is going to scratch her head and say "Why?" but when I finished up that last "to do" item on the Firehawk (replacing the a/c tensioner, pulley, idler pulley, and belt to get rid of a squeak) and when I started her up and all I heard was engine and exhaust noise, I realized I really enjoy that part of owning an older vehicle that needs some TLC to bring it back to as close to running and looking as new as possible. Yes, the rust scares me a bit, but the bubbling isn't bad and I have a fantastic body shop that is reasonably priced. He knows I'm a DIY'er and will work with me to help me save $ by providing guidance with teh work I can do before he has to get involved.

I have mig and tig welders (gotta practice with that tig though... long time) so if some metal needs to be replaced, I can at least remove the bad metal and tack weld prefabbed cab corners (they make those, right?? Hopefully the rockers are ok) and other pieces if needed. During my facetime call with the salesguy, he crawled under the truck and showed me the frame with his iphone camere... it looked very good with only surface rust here and there. From my research, I am guessing the cab corners bubbling is due to the moon roof (could do without that.. never use 'em) drains. More to learn on how to prevent it from getting worse (if possible) and what it takes for the fix... all part of the journey...

The seats are a mess, but I watched a vid last night that another forum member posted a few years ago showing how to replace the front seat lower and lean back(?) pieces and it didn't seem to be too hard of a job... The hard part will be muscling the seats out of the cab. Fortunately, I have a couple of neighbors that would lend a hand if need be.

Most of the issues are aesthetic, which require patience and research (and lots of help from Raptor Forum members.. :emotions34: )

I have a PPI scheduled at a highly rated NAPA Autocare center a week from Thursday..about $250, but well worth it. But my test drive will be this coming week... if it shows the engine is strong and the tranny shifts without slip or shuddering, and the PPI mechanics gives two thumbs up, then that is my biggest concern satisfied. Everything else is just time, labor, and a bit of a learning curve for things I haven't tried before on previous projects.

All that said, here is a screen capture of the window sticker. If anyone has some time to spare to look it over and mention if there should be extra focus taken on certain items to be sure all is well, I'd surely appreciate it.

I know one thing that is wrong already. The sales guy opened the rear hatch during our Facetime call, and the bed was empty... according to the sticker, the original owner paid for a bed extender... I didn't see one. Maybe the has it tucked aside (he didn't mention it), or a previous owner sold it. I will bring it up during out next conversation...

Not a deal breaker, but since my learning curve is way too steep right now, I'd surely appreciate everyone's input on this Raptor as equipped from the factory.
Note: I'll add a pic of the rear bumper... My Lord, that thing is ugly. (my apologies if someone has one of these..) Clearly an aftermarket version and it looks like one of the owners backed into something and tweaked it (??).. it will have to go for an OEM replacement as I like the look of the stock one (if I can find one in good shape for reasonable money if there is such a thing)...recommendations for a proper replacement and where to find one are appreciated.

IDK nex, but it sure is ugly IMHO and does not belong on a Raptor. It looks like it's been backed into something too.
If the deal goes through, finding a well-preserved OEM replacement will be a top priority!
