I had a few trees do the same thing to my truck.

Then a car wash decided to give the tree's job a run for their money.

What i cant say is i havent been able to blame anyone else for the damage my trucks paint has seen.

Hopefully your insurance will cover things.

Had this happen to me on xmas eve as well. It ended up just being my tailgate and not the whole truck. I came unglued with just that, I could only imagine if they hit my whole truck.
