Snow chains 35x12.50x20 Nitto Ridge Grapplers

Hi folks,

Planning a Xmas trip in the mountains and wanted to have snow chains on standby. Read thru the forums and noticed that chains aren't preferred due to clearance. Since I have an aftermarket setup wanted to get some thoughts on what's worked out there for other Gen 2 folks running a similar setup.

chains wont work unless you have aftermarket wheels with more backspace..tire will be too close to upper control arm.

that being said, i have no experience with tire chains, but thats the reason they say not to run them..

Wouldn’t run chains the tolerance is way too tight & depending how many miles on the suspension & how new the tires are you can get rubbing in front @ full lock in certain scenarios w/ NO mods or chains.

Can you add studs to the nittos?

I run studded Nokian hallapellitas (spelling?) dedicated winter tire in stock size 315/70/R17…& since I’ve been doing so I honestly don’t even know what it’s like to be even remotely concerned about driving in winter conditions….full blown blizzard w/ snow dumping down & 7-10” of slush & snow already down? 70mph passing plows in 4HI, stomp on brakes & while the stopping distance is gonna be longer you won’t feel the ass end come around on ya.

I've run chains on both front and rear on a stock 18, 19 and 23 wheels and 35 tires without issue several times.

Thanks for the replies, I'll post some pics of my setup to see if they will fit.

Some reviews show the ridge grappler are bad in snow, and this is a brand new set for Texas driving, now that I am planning a road trip this has me in a tough position.

Would like to have snow chains in case I get stopped for inspection or need them. I do get rubbing when turning hard.

I can tell you from experience the RG’s are very poor in snow, slush and ice. They are also poor in general in temps below 35 degrees with dry roads. I had 37x12.50’s and the rear tires would break loose noticeably sooner than at moderate to high temps. When I swapped back to a KO2 it was dramatic how much better they were in cold weather and snow, slush and ice. The RG’s were quiet and looked nice, I will give them that.
