Lost trucks? Seriously?
Yes. Very serious! As soon as the daisy chain brakes down and a team member doesn't wait at an intersection for the truck behind them, your team can get broken up and drivers lost.

Next the whole team sits and waits while the support trucks get everyone back together.

A GPS is not required for the run, so the participants must rely on the team as a whole.

Communication is key as well. Let the drivers in front of you and behind you know your driving style, if your breaking hard, if you missed a turn or what ever.

I can not remember where the post was that had the Frequency for each GLRE Channel and what the settings needed to be.

Finally received my handheld (KG-UV8D) and want to program it.

Ok, so if I were ONLY able to buy either a better radio than my hand held OR a GPS unit, what is the preference? Or should I just be fine and not be too worried about it? Definitely don't want to get lost in the cold....unless if you just drive you will eventually make it to a road on the normal NAV unit.
The stock nav surprisingly has most of the trails on it. Just got to zoom in close enough to see the road / trail.

GLRE recommends no one use a hand held radio due to the limited range unless used with an external antenna mount.

A 50W+ radio with appropriate antenna is much more useful.

I've got a used Kenwwood TK-790 110W modded through PCI. That thing could be used to reach out and hold a conversation with God. It's one of my favorite upgrades. As far a group stuff a bad arse radio is what I'd get.

I've fairly recent picked up a sweet GPS setup. However, one "shouldn't" need it for something like this if everyone stays together. You could run a mapped course by yourself though, so the lost thing would be next to a 0% possibility.

What mods does PCI do to them. I was looking at getting a Kenwood and was debating on a HAM unit or getting a used and tested public radio and programming it.

And Back to my earlier post. Who has a list of the Freq Channels that should be programmed into the radios?
