How much should my D rings be rated for? Im looking a getting the warn 3/4 d ring rated at 18k. Will this be enough?

Thanks gents

3/4" will be plenty. Same size we use on our Hummer runs.

Just remember to back the pin off a quarter turn before you pull something out

^ what he said.
Although I'd buy the made in the USA D rings. The warn are made in China if I'm not mistaken.
I believe the Crosby ones are made in the USA.

Good advice here. Definetly get the Crosby's. They cost more then the China ones but worth the piece of mind.

I have a supplier that manufactures titanium d-ring shackles. Great peices, but pricey. But are faaaar superior than steel.

For example:

Our 5/16 titanium d-ring has a working load of 4000lbs (8000lbs break point)

A regular 5/16 forged steel d-ring has working load of 500 lbs (1500 lbs break point)

Cost is where it hurts though, a steel d-ring is just a few bucks. Our titanium 5/16 is about $60.

Just like any chain, a recovery setup is only as strong as it's weakest link. If it were me, I'd try to get a hook rated stronger than the strap. The normal D rings that off-road shops sell are way weaker than a mid size snatch strap. Monsterhooks have extreme ratings, and are made of titanium. Which would you rather have come apart and come flying at your truck? A steel d ring or a nylon strap?

That said, 9/10 recoveries are simple and won't break a d ring. That 10th one can be a bitch though if your cab gets hit by flying steel shards.

18,000lbs d-rings? You guys are nuts. The Buddha ropes y'all are playin with are rated at what?... 28,600lbs? And you guys don't think that sounds a little off? Do yourselves a favor and get a set of Crosby Alloy 12 or 15 ton Shackles. I'll be damned if you guys don't listen to me and someone gets hurt because they didn't. I'm about ready to order 20 ton shackles for my rig. I'll let you guys see how big of shackles I have if I can get her to the Time Attack run. Yes all shackles have a safety factor built into them but I wouldn't **** with that safety factor. Don't exceed advertised rigging product ratings! Only I'm allowed to do that.

P.S.
China rigging shit sucks. I've got a scar I can show y'all if you don't believe me.
