I love how Ford spends 5 years and millions of dollars developing a coil sprung rear suspension for their top of the line, high speed off-road truck and people just go and *** around with the suspension like they have any idea what they are

While I can definitely see some owners wanting higher capacity rear springs for towing and hauling, what I still don’t understand is the obsession with “leveling”. Adding static stress via additional preload to the front suspension and driveline only for aesthetics while also exacerbating the saggy rear look that will occur with any appreciable amount of added weight over the rear axle seems counterproductive.

I love how people, especially those that think a Corvette is a better buy than a Raptor, act like they know something when it comes to off-roading and hauling gear. Keep trying to look smart bud, I am sure your mom will be proud.

If you actually knew what your talking about, then you would know the Raptor’s suspension comes from the factory extremely soft. In other words, as soon as you put significant weight in the bed and/or tow a trailer, the truck squats like crazy. This is not ideal to say the least: if your rear is squatting, then you are limiting your travel in the rear, which limits your performance off-road. We shall see how the coil sprung rear is on the Gen 3, but I would it expect it to be similar to how the Gen 1 and Gen 2 is.

I love that comment, factory is always right lol.
And how many miles you have on Raptors. Iam at 230,000 and counting. Maybe 30k of that is stock, the rest is on modified front and rear suspension- the right expensive way- no spacers, with a vast improvement on three trucks. Ford does things to function well but at a certain price point and for an unloaded truck. So many people here have different needs for their trucks. Like actually use them as a truck to haul ****. So people want to change a $20 piece of spring steel to fit their needs. One size does not fit all.

This forum has more testosterone than a high school football team. As the great philosopher Rodney King said, “can’t,….can’t…..we all just get along?”

The one for my Gen 2 weighs 198 lbs if my memory is correct. With that and my off-roading essentials in the back, I sag with about 400 lbs in the bed. So I put Eibachs up front and Deaver +3 HD in the rear. Wish I had gone with the +4 for when I tow. Given that the Gen 3 has rear coils, it’ll be interesting to see the new spring options. Personally, I think spring replacements are a must in these trucks especially with gear and canopies. This pic was before spring replacement.View attachment 336238
I’m thinking of getting this same setup. I have a Decked drawer system too, so I’d be 450lbs in the bed before adding my dog, his kennel, hunting and recovery crap, cooler, and me. Seems like new springs are in my future.

Curious how the heat is inside the bed? My understanding is these steel caps run notably hotter than fiberglass ones, but do you have any opinion on that?

I know with, or without the windows open on my current Snugtop, the inside gets damn hot in the summer. The Smart Cap has something, I forgot what it is called, that pushes air into the cap when the vehicle is in motion. The two side windows on the Smart Cap I actually saw open up completely, but you can only open both side windows completely when parked. Otherwise the two side windows have two small sliders. Heat is a huge issue for me because I train Combat Dogs. However, heat is only an issue for me when I am parked and busy training other dogs, which is when my dog is inside the shell, otherwise my dog sits behind me in the cab.

I forgot to mention that I have a custom built Dog Crate in the bed of my truck that is 30” high. I would like to get a Decked system to put underneath the crate, but because of the Snugtop ceiling, I am short of about 2” of clearance. I am almost positive the Smart Cap will remedy the issue. If it doesn’, there is a company that custom builds drawer systems, but the one I want cost 5k.

Ford is a business and will cut any corner they can to save money. Just look at the silly stuff they did on the '17 to 18' models to save a few bucks. Keep your stock setup and I'll just stay happy over here with my improved one.

I didn't do it for leveling, I did it for the improved ride and stability. Have you actually driven a Raptor with the springs changed out or are you just making assumptions, because it's night and day difference. Replacing springs will always be in my "new truck budget" from now on. Regardless of the front springs, the rear leafs in the Gen 2 are trash. Just search for the pictures of flat leaf springs on the Gen 2s...haha.
