Not trying to pile on ya @oxfordraptor, have you had a light bar behind the grill or been in a raptor with one?

I was a little skeptical about the light output behind the grill, but my brother bought me a cheap Chinese knockoff 40" light bar for my birthday and I didn't want to mount it outside the truck, so I tried it out behind the grill and DAMN...lights still are bright as hell! I thought the knockoff bar wouldn't be that bright either, but it lights up like crazy! I can't see a need for more light unless I was doing something crazy.

I've been very pleased with the light bar behind the grill, lots of light available at all times and to me, maintains the clean look of the truck.

But like you said, to each their own. Just explaining my experiences.

It was an assumption on light output based on the fact the grill would cover some of it. My main thing is I don't like the way it looks. I get light for off road use, but some go way overboard I think and it just becomes where can I put this. That's fine, it's their money and truck. I have a 21" Vision X Xmitter Prime Extreme in my bumper and you would need to pull the skid plate to steal the light so theft isn't a concern, plus I have insurance.

It's funny how you can't say you don't like something anymore because people get all defensive about their choice. I appreciate the details regarding the light output though, good to know.

I think you can say you don't like something, I do it all the time, I think it's just the way you said it. Came off pretty rude. I generally share your sentiments about not wanting a bar behind the grill, although I've considered it, I just won't outright tell someone they're wasting their money, if they like it then it isn't a waste.

Yeah normally I would put IMO or something just so it's not personal. Just checked the post and it looks like I spaced so I edited it.

Just for the record oxman, I could care less what you like and I was in no way offended. LOL. I like how it looks otherwise I would not have done it. You going to TRR?, I can give you a ride at night and let you see how I light up the desert. At Raptoberfest my wife didn't want to go out at night because she felt it would be scary but I convinced her to go. Once I flipped the switches, she was like Wow, its like daylight. And at TRR, I am adding more lights thanks to Crown Offroad, yeah buddy.

@RDFTS...yeah, a gift is a gift. Also, since I was skeptical about the behind the grill setup, I thought don't waste too much money if it was going to block a lot of light. Now that I have the cheapo, I like it. I don't use the light bar much at all, and it works great when I do occasionally use it. I figure part of the expense to a pricey light bar is the durability, and since its behind the grill, I feel like The durability is less of an issue.

The behind the grill lights are carry over from when it was mostly stock. I figure I will use them as long as they work. I think it was determined a 50% of lumens behind the grill, but it sure looks nice.

Bro you're good, I know. I LOL'd at the whatever response. That was a healthy dismissal of my opinion.

I think my lights are excessive, but I have them already so I might as well use them.

But do I really need to cut holes into my perfectly good fenders just to mount two flush mounts for "side lighting".....
