I'm guessing that once the Raptor R is released the Ecoboost raptors will not be the "hot item" anymore and can be had for at or below MSRP. So I'm planning on waiting for the R to be released before ordering an Ecoboost and that craziness calms down

Maybe just go for a 24.

This will be the last Gen Raptor with no electricity involved. Next will be hybrid or all electric with lots of Rivian DNA.

Until they figure out how you can tune the shit out of this motor and how much less it weighs than a R!

Unless you need a new truck this year (lease ending, etc.), I would wait for ‘22.

Yes, you guys should all wait. Gen 4 will be sweet. Plus, by 2028, the Raptor R used market could be interesting. I would wait at least a couple years after that in case there are recalls. Plus fuel will be $10 per gallon by then, wait for that to go back down as well.

I'm truckless so I can't afford to wait. Plus I'm not sure I would buy the R today if it were available. The Raptor will be a daily driver for me and believe the Ecoboost should do the job just fine.
Price would also be a factor for me. I was originally trying to stay around $70k on a gen 3. My build, 801A and 37 Package is pushing me to $80k. My gut is telling the R would push me close to $90k.
But I do think your correct. When the R finally hits it will definitely be the hottest ticket in town and the Ecoboost Raptors will take second position.

The difference of old Range Rover and new when they dropped 1000lbs from it. Would never haul extra bags of sand with me without no reason. And it became some much more agile in the process. Same applies to Raptor. I have no interest in R what so ever because I can get the same outcome with little tuning.

They are almost certainly going to be `22 anyway, won't even be until almost September until the first arrive.

Ford pushed off delivery of a couple million lbs of my company’s metal - not reneging, just delaying delivery- it may be anecdotal but I was personally in Dearborn couple months ago & certainly seemed like they’re having production/supply chain issues on a large scale.

I had the same line of reasoning the last time I overpaid for a pair of pants.

The R will bring in a lot of buzz though, and it's entirely possible the regular Raptor gets more attention because for that reason. It's entirely possible that the R actually extends the length of time before you can get a good deal on any Raptor.
