Bottom line is if you think there is some "Raptor Purist Ideaology" Shelby has overlooked, I think you are sadly misinformed as most Raptors, FRF approved or not, don't ever see the use and abuse reputation you would wish to project on the nameplate.

I know the consensus on FRF is of course to have a build that fits what some have suggested, but even most of our members can't afford 40k for a total engine rebuild, suspension and the Shelby features one expects, much less 75k for a true rebuild of the Raptor, or we would see dozens of Outlaw Raptors, not 4. I'm a FRF paid member, and I would have loved to see a more involved build here myself, and I'd like my TV to make my dinner and serve it to me too, but those are wishes, not successful business models, and I wish more people knew the difference in the two. The research was gone over and discussed, and even fought about for months- but you can't deliver the world for a pence. Market research is what the build was created on, not on what Q from James Bond could create in his lab.

I know- counter argument is- Shelby should have left the Raptor alone if they couldn't do it "right" for a profit. Except this brings up another problem. Shelby is married to Ford. They can only do builds on vehicles Ford produces. They do Mustangs, Ford GTs, the Focus ST and Raptors- all SVT nameplates are vehicles Shelby build a package for. Why not a Winstar or regular truck or Flex? Shelby built 4 F-150s when they offered regular trucks to get a package. they got 4 total bites on that. why? Because people that buy those vehicles will not spend money upgrading those vehicles. There is no personal attachment to them, they are disposable with no concern for the identity shared between them like SVT owners have with their vehicles. It is why Shelby is IN business, and why SVT still has a place in Ford. Talk to John Clor with Ford for 5 minutes, and you will find out in the first minute that Ford would gladly just do away with SVT if they could.
If you follow the logic of keeping a business operational, you begin to understand what options Shelby actually has.

They have to keep building to stay in business, and there no other Fords available for them to pull into their design. I could not illustrate it any clearer if I used crayons. Either you get it or you don't. They are building it, people are buying it. You can like it or hate it- but either way life goes on. Shelby sold another 15 today I hear. Good for them.

I want to make it clear that while I'm happy to hold people's hands through this process of showing how businesses are able to sell products, it does get a bit old and time consuming. I have no emotional currency in this discussion other than to illustrate why Shelby is doing what they are doing- in my personal opinion.

I'll discuss, but don't expect an emotional battle here. Internet fighting is for retards.

WOW--want to save this diatribe for future reference.. Was not aware that we have Shelby to thank and continue to thank for SVT and our Raptors.:worship: ROI is what it is about and Shelby was about making money. That is a well known fact. Interesting that you quote a Ford source and advise that they would love to get rid of SVT. Interesting indeed!

It's only a diatribe when it has way more than you need to understand- and yet somehow you still don't. (In crayon-) Shelby tied to SVT and Ford, not Ford and SVT tied to Shelby. ( thinking maybe your a cliff notes kind of guy)

There is way more to this story that you don't get to hear, but, that's the way it goes- general public gets general information.

As for the Ford and SVT strained relationship- I've spoken with John Clor a couple times about this subject, but it's nothing top secret. I have been to at least three events he was guest speaker for, and although it is highly entertaining each time, it is more or less the same information he shares for every speech. He is on Facebook- don't take my word for it- ask him. John M. Clor and it is the first name that pops up. Send him a msg, ask him if Ford execs have tried to shut down the SVT program over the last decade...it's a great story!

I'm sorry you feel the need to be nothing more than argumentative at this point- I see that a lot on forums, but was holding out hope for a strong mind.

This is a Shelby Raptor and not a Hennessey cRaptor.. I expected this kind of heated debate over hennessey and not shelby.. Yes, they could have done a lot of things.. They chose to target "their" customer base and not compete in an area they don't specialize in (like sdhq, outlaw, add/foutz, and rpg).

Well the bottom line is this---I do this for a living modifying/retrofitting products infinitely more complex than a Raptor or Mustang and do ok. Have been part of more PDR’s (preliminary design reviews) and CDR’s (critical design reviews) that you can imagine over the last 28 years. This includes all of the qualification activities which involve more rigorous testing that anything in the automotive industry. I am very aware of the “causal relationships” that exist in the auto industry as well as many others. Have been a part of some in the aerospace industry that being said Shelby had a chance to spend the same money or a little more (why not two versions like the Mustangs) but did not have the vision to do so plain and simple. One only has to look at the aftermarket and see that there is in excess of a billion dollars spent every year on just automotive modifications. Where Shelby (Company not the old man) is faulted is at the systemic level for not having the strategic vision to put something together that is true to the concept of the Raptor. The wrong people were making the choices shall we say---the Shelby Raptor is a stripped down truck with a SC and kiddie go fast stickers no more no less.

It so easy a 14 year old could come up with the concept that Shelby executed---maybe people who conducted the due diligence were tired old fat men who like to cruise the mall’s and go to “Club Events” I do not know. The demographic for Shelby is the older generation that may not like to get the ole bladder bounced around so–they just want to look cool and spin tires and show off the Shelby go fast stickers. They then go home and park in the garage with the other vehicles listed in the “Official Shelby Registry”.

ALL OF THE ABOVE BEING SAID---if Shelby would have used a higher option value truck as a base, EVEN with the S/C and with the commensurate suspension improvements (kind of like the super snake why not OPTIONS) I would be a buyer. What they are doing imho as just making an easy, simple and very large margin on a dead mans’s name with easy bolt on modifications that can be done in a couple of days in a manufacturing environment. By leveraging their existing supply chain the pricing they can get on the components required for this build will be much better than any small company. In reality, there is a much bigger market for the Raptor package if done correctly at least here in Texas I see many more Raptors than GT 500’s.

Maybe the infrastructure at Shelby will not support the manufacturing assembly and testing required for anything but adding seats, mounting tire and wheel assemblies, application of go fast stickers (ok graphics) and the bolt on work associated with the SC, the required plumbing and programming.

Ford has always been at odds with its racing programs and has in the past shut them down...remember SVO (Special Vehicle Operations)? So it wouldn't surprize me that someone at Ford is talking about canceling the SVT program. But one small problem, it's making them money! Ford only expected to produce 5,000-7,000 Raptors and ended the first year with producing 10,000 units. This guy may complain about SVT to you but deep down inside he's enjoying the money train.

John most certainly is a champion of SVT to be clear. It is Ford execs that dont like SVT being (and pardon the pun here) a "Rogue" division.

John authored several books including the Ford GT History book given to all FGT owners and another book that is now impossible to find called "Mustang Dynasty". It came with all kinds of cool patches and stickers, and detailed the history of the mustang. I picked up two copies from Costco years ago, then found out he was the author when I first met him. I had him sign both copies for my kids to have when they grow up.

But you are 100% correct, Ford did away with SVO, and also pushed out several SVT employees over the last decade.

I will say that SVT seems to be in a much better place than it was in 2010 as far as FMC is concerned.
