Is this a thing? I've been chasing death wobble on my old JK and thought I got rid of it. Had new 33" BFGs on and now when it's below freezing I get death wobble pretty frequently but in the afternoon it goes away
Not in my experience. Have owned several generation of F150's, stock, lifted, 35's and now a raptor with 37's considering going to 38/39's on the next tire change and never had any vibration or wobbles due to the tires.

Plus I assemble my beadlocks and tires at home and just have it roadforce balanced. Ride is smooth all the way to 120mph (only took it to that speed a handful of times due to the tires Q speed rating).

Severe wobble that goes away as the vehicle / air heats up is most likely related to frozen water. Ice can occur at the bottom of the wheel if you park a warm vehicle in slush or deep snow. Brake usage (or air temp) will warm the wheel and no more vibration. I have had to pull over and chisel off ice from wheels to stop bad vibrations. Or water inside the tire can freeze, putting all the water weight in one spot until the water warms up and melts. This is why i asked if the OP was on his second set of tires. Ford spends millions on their tire inflating and mounting systems. Bubba the tire guy can easy over lubricate.

Hell yes tire flat spots and tire / wheel balances are real things. We could talk tire harmonics as well, which OEM tires are measured for 100%, but I digress. I worked on OEM tire/wheel warranty and vehicle sensitivity in this area for several years. Just because you have not experienced it or understand the mechanisms does not mean much.

But do go on and regale us with your experience based on a few vehicles.

you misunderstood my post, and that's ok.

To be clear, I did not say anything about flat spots and wheel balances not being real things.

And just to point it out, it is not correct or good behavior to ascertain that a person/poster you have not met does not understand simple mechanisms such as these.

Designed and worked on systems that are in aircrafts, spacecrafts, payloads and satellites for more than a decade wherein if you have ever been in a commercial flight, you most likely have ridden in an aircraft that has one of those products designed/co-designed by me.

But, I do not what this conversation to deviate the thread, so ill just indulge you, sit back and agree with your presumptions that I'm an experienced dumba$$ that just doesn't know anything. :happy160:

Anyways, back to the topic of this thread...

I worked on vehicle suspensions in all engineering phases For 20+ years. Tire / wheel causes for warranty, suspension fasteners, suspension bushings and suspension structural performance requirements I know cold. Everything I posted is spot on accurate.

The poster asked if wheel imbalance or tire flat spots was a “thing”. You said no, directly contradicting me. You are entitled to your experience, but to contradict me based on such limited vehicle experience?

Took to Discount Tire, they said the balance was still off and set psi to 40 all around. It's much better, but still there. Temperature where I am isn't making a difference. Sport mode feels better. . Maybe as I upgrade the suspension and wheels it will work itself out.

Once you tune into a vibration, it is hard not to notice. Consider having the tire/wheels rotated and see if that makes a difference.

What vehicle speeds are the worst for this vibration?

Another note about tire flat spotting - it can occur in 2 basic ways, both of which can lead to vibration. Tread flat spotting, like you might get after an aggressive stop w/o ABS, will be felt at all vehicle speeds. The second type is a transient, generally occurring when warm tires are parked for some length of time on a cold surface. This tire memory and subsequent vibration generally goes away after the tire fully warms up. You see this a lot with sports cars parked over the winter.

Almost all speeds. Good idea on rotation, see if it makes a difference.

Something is definitely not right.

Consider asking the dealer to dismount and remount the tires onto the wheels. Once in a blue moon, the tire bead may not fully seat onto the wheel, causing a once/rev vibration. Dismounting/remounting generally cleans that up. I have seen aggressive cases where the mounting gap is visible, but generally you can’t see it.
