Securing spare tire?

I can tell you what not to do: Do not use a single 1" ratchet strap to strap it to the bed through a couple of D-rings mounted to the bed itself. The strap will snap in the whoops and the spare will go flying out of the back of your bed... ask me how I know... lol.

Haha! That was classic. Too bad that wasn't caught on video.

If it was last weekend then I saw it and was behind u. Yes it was certainly higher than the cab by at least 10 feet. On the second bounce it took off like a rocket. Since nothing was broken other than the strap or damaged them I can say "that was f'n cool thing to see!"

Do you drill those D rings into the bed yourself?

I'll assume you're asking about my D-rings since Bigg50's are secured by bed bolts.

I did. I dropped the spare and put a 4"x4" by 1/4" metal plate under the bed at each ring for reinforcement. Used stainless hardware to prevent any rust issues. However, I will be removing them with my new bed rack.

Thanks. But one you start using your bed rack how are you going to secure the spare to the rack?
