The ecoboost block has been refined with additional reinforcement ribs. Ford use an upgraded crankshaft by way of units with higher nickel and chromium content than standard crankshafts. They did use cast aluminum pistons, but they have a low friction coating to prevent damage along with injectors that squirt oil directly at the pistons to further decrease friction. Lastly, they used a set of multi-layer steel head gaskets to ensure a tight seal on the heads when the motor is under boost.

16mpg, pretty sweet!
I get 11.0 now :(

Shoot the 50 cal!

What about reliability of turbo chargers? Id rather spend my $1300 eaxtra in gas each year and lose slightly a bit of performance to have an engine I can hammer to hell and still have it run.. Turbo chargers are expensive and unreliable from what I hear, losing that $1300 you save each year, and then some.

I dont know much about these things, so dont hate.

16 MPG follow a semi truck close and you can get 17 with the 6.2 but thats not what this is really about.. If I could get 17 could I keep my foot out of it to get 17,,,, NOPE!!! So with the turbo wound up constantly what would I get for gas mileage.. LOL and if you have to ask whats the MPG this is not the truck for you... how about a nice prius...lol But the truck looks pretty good mostly cause it looks like umm OH YEAH A RAPTOR..lol...AND SHOOT THE 50 CAL... thanks...

I got the chance to drive RPG Eco-Boost, sans exhaust while testing their F-150 conversion UCA c/o, Raptor BFG 35" and normal Raptor rear shocks, leafs, frame support. We hit it pretty hard out in Barstow, tore up the fender liners a bit. Gotta tell you it was a hoot to drive. Only 2WD but most of the time never need 4WD anyway. Motor was a pure joy to listen to, high reving, nimble shifting, and with the exhaust gone loud enough to tell what gear you were in, lol.

Now this was a stock Ecoboost, no CAI, no Tune, plenty of power. Not built out like the SDHQ ride - very impressive btw.

I would have selected the Eco if had been available, I am very impressed with the motor and the testing Ford did with it. Tweak it with a tune and CAI and upgrade the exhaust, I think it would kick the 6.2 ass.

In regards to building the Raptor from a stock Eco, I wonder about all the goodies left behind, the beefier drive train/rear axle, Down hill Desent, the upfitter switches, Off Road Mode, They mentioned the locking rear diff that can be engaged in any mode on a true Raptor. I wonder if the SDHQ got the Torsen front Diff?

I see a lot of advantages to building one up this way. I must have $20,000 of slightly used Raptor parts in my warehouse from upgraded aftermarket.

Either way, Raptors rule, however you get there. :pepper: :pepper: :pepper:

^^^^^^^^^^^ This. I don't really even consider it a Raptor with losing all that Raptor functionality. It's just a beefed up F-150 with a Raptor body kit really, which everytime I've seen F-150's with Raptor body kits, forum members go mental saying it's shit haha. Anyway, if you just swapped the engine would that version retain all original Raptor fuctionality?

I am going to respectfully disagree with you and here is why:

People buy and use Raptors for quite a variety of purposes, some like them primarily for their Street good looks and uniqueness, Some for rock crawling go almost anywhere versatility, and some like to play hard in the dirt and occasionally let their baby fly.

At the end of the day, I think the only real deficiency is the loss of the Torsen, Off Road mode and the Down Hill descent mode. That said, the Off Road mode can be compensated by manually shifting which is the fun thing to do in the Eco-Raptor, the other stuff does limit its use for Rock Crawling, but very few of us use our Raptors for this. Even without these useful features the Eco Raptor could do a good job crawling if one wanted too.

Like SDHQ said in OP, they did the math and made it more sense to do it this way.

Look at the build thread from Sodirty "2 wheel drive Raptor Project", here is an older F150 absolutely tricked out that I believe will out perform most every raptor ever built up, and its only 2 wheel drive! What is so engaging about that thread is that he is doing all the work himself.

Cudos to SDHQ for being the first to do this and to share with us! May I suggest some videos highlighting the beautiful sounds of the high revving Eco going fast down some trails. I'm telling you may not ever need to turn on the radio.

Kudos for calling me out, E! Haha. No, I get what you're saying, and I totally agree with you. Sodirty's truck probably will outperform most of our trucks and the SDHQ truck has advantages over our trucks, agreed. All I'm saying is they're not really Raptors, are they? They're something else altogether, better or worse, but not Raptors.

Well, tough to argue with that, lol but by that logic we shouldn't call tissues Kleenex either. Remember a Raptor is nothing more that a stock F150 that has been enhanced and technically Trademarked. IMO they are all welcome to participate and call themselves Raptors if they want to. :biggun:

It was a good argument, but you gave up to quick, I was already for the retort...lol... something along the lines that, "so you don't want to hang around a beautiful women because she was medically enhanced?" and I would be honored to share the trail with an "Enhanced" Raptor like SDHQ's Eco or Sodirty's labor of love.

Cheers :Rock on:

So you had a regular 6.2L raptor as the camera truck and you're telling me you didn't line them up and give us an acceleration video? Also how about zeroing the mileage indicators and getting some exact real mpg numbers from the same route driven....

Overall great video, but I feel by just adding these two things it would have made a very informative and useful video instead of just that guy drooling over the v6 and how he hates his v8 now....
