I know u can see frame damage when it's a fair amount, but If you can notice that kind of damage then it's bad frame damage in my opinion.Where the extra 12" is "added" on the frame of the crew is in a stronger section of the frame. It isn't REALLY added but in the place where it is longer than the scab.
From the trucks on the Barstow to Vegas run, I didn't see any real difference in damage. There were some crews there that took some pretty good licks and survived. I think it is a non-issue when it comes to frame strength. Now if they made a standard or long bed version I'd avoid that thing like the plague.
And about the frame bend mentioned due to possibly Screws longer wheel base... Makes sense but to make that kind of statement is a whole nother ball game.
Knowing Ford... I don't see them redesigning the frame any different than other screws like the fx4 except springs/leaf spring rates, which fx4's arent designed for baja. ButTo handle the different loads that Ford Designated for the screws. Looks like SVT designed the truck to be a lesser off road competitor TO THE scab. With that being said, Ford added capacity to come up with a 36gallon fuel tank for road trips. As well as figuring the heavier/slower truck for the grumpy ol' fellas (haha, j/k), not to mention higher spring rates under the assumption the truck is to be a more family oriented truck, hint. Makes me wonder if they added different frame supports figuring the fact that frame supports might be actually needed on the screws for baja terrain?? Also, how about the trucks motor tunes between the Scab and screw (nada I'm sure)? I know my 2003 SVT f-150 Harley anniversary (4-door Lightning) was identical to the SVT Lightning just on 02-03 model Harley's. The main difference was 2pounds less boost (both stock supercharged)
Just makes me wonder when ford started getting bent frame issues and started to design these trucks with torsen fronts and labeled them as "rock crawlers" ?! What year the screws came out versus those changes... Lol
Facts here
SVT LIGHTNING=for the enthusiastI'll tell you this. When I ordered my Raptor, I ordered a Tuxedo Black screw. 30 minutes later I went back & changed it to a Oxford White Scab. I was looking at the Molten Orange Scab they had on the lot & due to it's width, the raptor looks better in a supercab IMO. I sat in my buddies Scab & I'm 6' & they are easily 6'3, & we all fit surprisingly comfortably. I like the sportier look to the Scab. If you want a Screw the get a Harley Truck. They look better in a Screw & cost about the same. The Raptor should only come in the Scab like the Lightning came in only one size.
SVT SCAB Raptor=For the Enthusiast
SVT SCREW Raptor= was going to get an Fx4 but, "I'm such a show-off!" Haha
UNLESS, you plan on taking 4+ ppl with you roaming the deserts, ect.....can have that!
I agree screws look weird, Too many fender curves with flat panels throws em off stock. When u start adding bigger tires, gives the truck a mud look rather than baja styling. Both are great trucks which you'll love either route u go but don't cut yourself short in the fun department. ;-)
SCAB for the win!
Sound advise for those with - Too much FAMILY!

I'm with you on the Extended Cab (hate the term "scab") but consider this, with all the familized guys out there, the production of the 'Raptor' was enlarged and the price for the Extended Cad stayed below the stratosphere, just saying!
It would be funny seeing a bunch of 4-door Trophy Trucks racing around on television. That is how these "SVT" Raptors originated right ayy. Come on fellas, it's a Specialty Vehicle! All the guys with you "screw talk" , how u need a grocery getter, blah, blah than I guess the SCREW Specializes in that department too, touché!
I love the Scab, I drive both a scab and a screw... And I hate the length of the screw.
I NEVER ever ever encounter a situation in my scab where I miss the room in the screw.. EVER.... and I've never had anyone in the back seat complain.
I've never ever thought to myself in the screw.. (wow... this is something I couldn't get away with in my scab) But mannnn the number of times the scab handles things the screw would be a pain in the ass to do. (from a steering/control/radius standpoint)
If anyone DID complain. They could always walk, or buy their own truck and drive themselves.
I absolutely hate the turning radius on the screw compared to the scab. Not that I can't deal with it.. It's not unbearable or anything.... It is just noticably less like-able in the screw. Parking is SOOOOO insanely easy in the scab... Easier than several much much smaller cars I've driven. The radius + visibility are nice imo.
I can't seriously think of any reason anyone could really absolutely NEED a screw over the scab... the scab provides plenty of room.. I am amazed at the stuff I can fit into the back seat in the scab.. (Really not that much worse off than the screw)
As for the suicide doors being an issue shopping? Thats kind of a weird complaint... but I have to say I disagree and tend to prefer the suicide doors than the screw... because of the angle of the opening, the floor is more accessible in the scab since you can come at it from a more forward angle, rather than from behind the seat. Plus you don't have to walk around the door if you have both open to swap stuff from front to back... You have access to both ends at once. Love it.
I find the Screw takes wayyy too much enjoyment outta the drive for me. I would honestly get something else, if that was the only choice I had. Scab handles/turns/feels perfect. I don't like the long wheel-base feel in any vehicle. Currently drive 2 rides with a longer wheelbase than my scab... Just don't enjoy it.
Looks better.. And idc what anyone says, nobody "NEEEEDS" more than a scab.. It's a want. People are just too spoiled.
Sorry to you Screws... Personal opinion ! Don't like it.. then Screw you.. haha
Anyway, mark me down for voting Scab. The Original Raptor. Short & Sweet.
Save some money.
So fricking funny yet SO TRUE!! perfectly said, you def. get what u pay for either way but you benefit a lot more in an SCAB in every aspect. If you Need more dry storage room, simplify things and add a Bakfkip .
I cant believe no one has mentioned the extra 10 gallons of gas a screw can carry...interesting.
=extra weight to haul in my opinion. I dd my truck and having put 12k miles on it in 4 months. Not too many gas stops to complain about. One stop for gas on a 10 hr trip is to be expected. Think too though, screws get 1mpg less than SCAB's due to weight, ect. You Pretty much have 5-6 gallons lead over the scab AFTER u figure in the reality, mileage burnt hauling around that really 10 extra gallons + more ppl in cabin+larger loads, and less hole shot. Not to mention the gas mileage when a screw is loaded down with the extra pulling ability. After you look at the big picture of course. I'm sure your talking 60-70+ miles over an scab when empty and almost equal to scabs mileage when screws are loaded down?!??
I'm telling you this bc with that bigger tank also comes pricier fill-ups along with a very long fill-up time at the pumps. Time is money but it also takes almost double the time to fill up too.
