Looking now for the F-150 - but this video shows how it works on a Ranger. Start at 0:39 for the tailgate portion.

I think maybe I'm not being clear. That video shows a Ranger that has a flat tailgate. The F150's (our Raptors) have a bulge in the tailgate. All other caps (like Leer, ARE, and Snugtop) have a piece that accommodates that. This RSI cap (and the RLD cap) dont, which will cause them to bind against each other when opening and closing.

what's the cost for the XR rail replacement?
$399 - you need part number T-82381. I have ordered them but they are not to me yet. What can anyone recommend as far as crossbars go? I want low profile as my intended plan is to carry 3 bikes on top of the bed but I think I would want bars heavy duty enough to be able to put a platform and tent on top. Want something simple and effective. I've always had Whispbars for the top of my cars as they are dead silent. I'm assuming with the bars being behind the cab and out of direct airflow having super aerodynamic bars is not really a concern. Any recommendations of crossbars is much appreciated!

I ended up pulling the trigger, once I install and play with it I’ll report back. I talked to the rep and he explained the hydraulic arms allow the tailgate and rear cover to operate independently, but we shall see. I am really liking everything about the cap that I’ve seen, especially the aesthetics and modular construction so I can take it off and easily store it when not in use majority of the time. The ARE and Snugtops just look atrocious to me in comparison, but that is IMO.

Im sure youll be happy. If it works well, Id consider swapping out my snugtop. How much was it total? And did you get any accessories?

I am picking up my Go Fast Camper in June. I can’t wait. I have used a bunch of different RTT set ups and the GFC is the ultimate Raptor set up given its lightweight, deploys in 15 seconds, and its tubular framing is constructed to be robust and hold up to heavy off-road use. The aesthetics match the truck better than truck caps. I do like the look of short based overland racks with a RTT on a Raptor. But bed covers are not built for heavy off-road use. You can also run 500lb on the roof with GFC’s beef racks and there are a ton of mounting options for lights.

The owner of GFC had his Raptor wrapped in vinyl, but mine will be in solid black and will have no windows for privacy.

The two most popular options for us have been Thule and Yakima. If you’re after quiet, go with the Thule Slipstream or Yakima Jetstream bars.

Happy to put together a rack setup for you if you’d like. We’ve done it for quite a few of our XR customers.

I looked at GFC and wanted them for a while but (1) I keep my dog in the back so I need windows and (2) I need something wider to sleep three people. Those are slick though. How much was it?

I added a Retraxpro XR bedcover last weekend and so far I'm pretty pleased with it. Next up is an overland bed rack. I think I prefer the functionality and looks of a rack rather than just crossbars but I also want something low to mid profile so I can pull my truck into the garage with an RTT mounted (IE not sticking up a foot above my cab). I also want to be able to mount maxtrax, etc. to the side of the rack. So I could go with a KBVoodoo or RCI rack using their tonneau bracket adapters. I haven't ruled this out, but it does seem like that might be a bit silly to go that route after spending the money on the XR rails. Using the Retrax tracks, I think the current options are pretty much a platform like the Frontrunner or Rhino-Rack Pioneer. I guess I'm leaning towards the Frontrunner because I like all of the accessories they carry, but it's pretty damn expensive so I'm not totally sold. If anyone has any other options that I should look into I'd love to hear about them.

However, I may have recently found another option for those of us with the Retrax XR covers. The company is called upTop overland and they make a bed rack that I personally think is pretty great looking and has more of a traditional overland rack look. The have two rack heights (mid and high) and currently have an option for no bed cover and one for the Retrax XR covers. Here's the mid height with no bed cover:

And here's the tall one on a Retrax XR bedcover

Currently they only make these for Tacomas, but I've been in touch and they've assured me that an F-150 version is "at the top of their list." No whether that means a month from now or a year from now, I'm not sure. But if anyone else is interested, I recommend you contact them through their website and express your interest. Perhaps if enough of us do, it might push the timetable forward.

I am running a Gunner Kennel set up in the backseat for my dog. I am trying to get Goose Gear to design a rear seat delete where I have mounting points for the cage and fridge. But yea, the only downside on the RTT is that you can only fit two people up top (and maybe a kid). You could always attach an annex room on the side of the tent for an extra sleeping spot.

The camper cost me $7500 and I have another $500 in accessories from GFC (bed sheets, ladder, wind skid, and so on), so about $8k total. Yea, it sounds like a lot of money, but by the time you buy a topper, RTT, roof rack, and so on, you are not that far from that price point. And the GFC is going to weigh a lot less than those set ups with a better center of gravity, while also having a lot more durability too.

The big selling point for me is just how easy it opens and closes—I was tired of dickering around with my other RTT set ups.
