I built the mount that I use it is very secure I've done 500+ miles offroad in the north Maine woods, it has also been to the Phoenix course in Ohio and I've had zero problems no matter how many times I jump the truck. Only thing is vibration when going over washboard sections but I can live with that.

Yea that is definitely not going anywhere. My HDS7 is mounted to the same area with the LGE/CTS mount and is not only heavier its also further out and it does not move. I did use neoprene washers when I mounted it to help the vibration a little (mostly for when on grated roadways).

I want something more portable that the Lowrance and I wonder if it is a better, albeit more expensive choice than the Leadnav.

That loos great, i was just looking at a similar one from garmin, they seem to be more handy if u get out on foot or bike too
