Rust proofing/winterizing?

Bought the gallon can and gun.

I’d Like to hear about areas to concentrate by priority. I don’t plan on any brake caliper coverage, but not sure about control arms and suspension components.

I have access to a 4 post lift, but it’s in a new garage condo. I can’t afford to get This stuff all over. Looks, via video pretty low atomization. Not a bunch of overspray. Otherwise I’d have to apply on my creeper….

Just put an old tarp down or go to home depot and get a roll of cheap mil clear plastic roll and lay that down to catch any drippings, I put it on thick in places sometimes, the more the merrier!

If you look at the areas where the outside and inside rocker areas join together at the seam every so many inches they have an slightly open area to allow moisture to drain out. It's not very big, maybe 1/8" tall. My worry is if you coat the inside of the rockers it'll end up accumulating dirt and such and not allow the rockers to drain out. The drain areas I think are just too small they wouldn't get backed up. I think the problem moreso is stuff getting inside to start with. Also, you do need to be careful about applying things. I've also found you don't want to go too heavy, as it can trap moisture in areas. I've seen cars that were undercoated that literally rusted out from the inside because the frame and such wouldn't dry out, an the undercoating just kept everything sealed up. Here's a good video showing it, and I've seen similar things.

I used an air supplied siphon sprayer to flush out the rockers with soap and rinsed.

I did this as well. I've got a sprayer that connects to air that I used to degrease the inside after I pulled all the tape off, then just used compressed air to dry it out and make sure all the rocker drains were clear. I had very little inside since all the tape was still there and intact.

Good to know about the rockers.

Yeah i wont touch that rubberized undercoating, ive seen what it can do to cars also.

I’m prepped, but not sure I want to pull the trigger on the woolwax gun. This truck is super clean. I’d rather not make a huge overspray mess underneath.

I removed step rails for better access to clean/prep. I’m leaving them off for winter. They will collect chunks of salty snow and ice AND will be much easier to pressure wash rockers. Looking to put/make some front mud flaps for rock protection.

Is this the drain design for the rockers? They appear to be located near each factory taped hole…
