I got my truck tonight and when I got it home I started to look over some of the known issues listed on this forum. I also wanted to take a peak at the rivets used for the recall. What I was shocked to see was the amount of rust underneath the truck. How can a brand new 80k have this much rust already?

Also on a funny note, I found a random rubber band hanging in the front end. 978D3FEF-CB7C-4E0C-9BB9-AD81E669C53C.jpeg

I have fluid film and plastidip ready to coat the undercarriage but they won't help if that's how it looks when it shows up

Others have found rubber bands in their Gen 3’s, we use to hit kids in school with those when I was 8 or 9, from some of the workmanship I’ve seen lately from Ford, I think they are using child labor to put the trucks together.

Spray some wool wax or fluid film on that housing after you hit it with a wire brush or you could go to town and paint it with some tremclad gloss black.

I had a bit of rust on the differential of our Gen 3 but nothing as bad as this. Brush or spray a bit of permatex rust inhibitor/treatment on it. I’ve used it on a T-100 and used it to treat a JK frame in the past. It’s good stuff. Of course that’s only if you don’t want to make Ford make it right. I agree, not acceptable for a new vehicle to come to us with corrosion.

Side note, I found three rubber bands on mine as well. Here’s the dirtiest…not sure how to get Ford to replace it with a clean one. Lol.

I have rubber bands galore. Need to check my rear axle, it’s been coated in MN salt for weeks so probably looks fantastic.

The rubber bands are from the packaging of the components as they install them on the assembly line. As far as the rust, I’m not sure why the axles aren’t dipped in a coating. Even though it’s correct that it’s just cosmetic, it would be nice not to have surface rust under a new truck.

Totally unacceptable for 80K. Now I definitely don't want a winter-built truck.

Just talking about rust over here on winter-built trucks. Below is a link to my 16 lariat that was bought back by Ford with 15 miles on it.
