What's everyone using to tie down their spare in the bed? Since I won't have a lot of time from the time I receive the truck to heading up to our run, I'm not looking at trying to get some fancy welded gem to use. I'm looking at something that will get be by and then over time, I'll look at something more 'permanent'/expensive. Anyway to get it tied down well without drilling through the bed right away? I guess that would apply to the gas also (I have two 5g Tuff Jugs...I'll bring at least one depending on the set up I can come up with).

I'll make sure to change the air in my spare no guarantees that will work. but new air has to be better than old air. I'll have some new air for sale at the run until my cheep ass pump brakes lol. ah I'll let any one that wants some new air have it for free.

I dont have a problem putting the spare in the bed of the truck, just that the tent we have is a napier and it sets up in the back. just too much hassel to remove and lock back on the truck at night and then load back up. (guess I could cable lock it to the trailer hitch at night) Making a foldable bed rack out of 2x4s to help keep my gear stable for the run, and can store underneath the truck at night, (coating it in herculiner to strengthen it too. just need to get my gas cans so I can design it. gettin closer:troll3:
And its finally gonna get warm here too!!

Well, I was going to tell you that you could put in dome D-rings to use to strap your stuff down but then I read the part about the tent. Not sure how that would work out. I put D-rings on all the bed bolts and have my tire strapped down by weaving ratchet straps through as Huck said earlier. Not sure what cans you are getting. I have two VP racing jugs. Found an aluminum bin to put them in online(Amazon if I remember correctly.) The bin is designed for mounting on trailer walls. It works out nice to keep the jugs in place and contain any spills. If you want a couple of D-rings, I think I have two extra.

Don't know if this helps you guys. But made this out of a piece of 3/4 plywood and two by fours. Used the d rings to tie it down. Made it thru the snowball and 4 thousand miles. Made the spare tie tie down out of a old tire mount from my old truck. Just a long bolt and wing nut. Just used big washers on both sides of the bolt. Made 2 gas can holders and rubber tie downs. Made a jack holder also. Don't think I would be jumping with this set up, but cheap and effective. Used deck screws to hold the thing together.
