Wow... not so sure I’d be comfortable with a short block swap. A new long block, maybe... but yeah, don’t know if I’d be comfortable with that.

Couple of questions... what color is your truck and did they give you a loaner?

Unfortunately the customer's level of comfort is not an input to Ford's repair decisions. They diagnose the problem, repair it, and warranty it. If I have more issues, I return to the dealer. It's that simple.

Truck is blue and they gave me a rental from Enterprise.

Exactly , when my motor took a dump everyone was... tell em u want a new truck , tell em you a whole new motor , tell em you want your money back.

You dont tell them anything ....

you just need to be mechanically inclined, and be able to call them on their ********.


if Kayne can say slavery was a choice, you can get a long block over a shortblock.....

Update:

I picked up the truck on Friday, after almost a month in the shop. It runs and drives just like it did before I had the rod knock issue, which I am quite surprised about and impressed by (techs did a great job). After reading through the mechanics notes, I discovered more info than they had told me over the phone. Here is how it went:

1. Customer complaining of knocking sound and 2k rpm in low gears. Not sure if engine or trans.
2. After test drive, mechanic also heard noise. Still unsure of source.
3. Perform EECV diagnosis and ignition system diagnosis and power balance tests and DCL display tests. Using stethoscope, noise was narrowed down to engine. Verify rattling noise from engine under load and elevated idle.
4. Perform cylinder cutouts (fuel cut) to determine which cylinder is source. Upon cancelling cylinder 4, noise went away (stethoscope verified).
5. Perform manual compression test, compression fine.
6. Dropped oilpan and upper cradle for access to bearings. Found spun #4 cyl connecting rod bearing and damaged crank and bearing.
7. Contact Ford Engineering and submit warranty claim for short block through Ford corporate. Claim approved. Short block on backorder.
8. Short block assembly arrived, crate was damaged. Upon opening also found oilpan damaged. Order new oilpan.
9. Install new short block and oilpan. Change oil and filter, refill and bleed cooling system, reset KAM and perform misfire monitor adaptive relearn procedure. Road test. Everything looks fine. Return to customer.

I asked to view the engine in person, but they were working on cleaning the whole shop with water hoses and mops, so we were advised to to go back there. Service advisor told me to take it easy on the truck for a few hundred miles for power cylinder break-in.

Hope this post helps anyone experiencing similar issues.
