Road trip with a family of 5 over 3500 miles and 12 days. How does the Raptor hold up?

So the situation is this: you have no idea what it's like to own and use an EV, yet you have a very, very strong opinion about what it's like to own and use an EV.

That's weird.
Both assumptions are correct yes! Its not weird tho I just trust the science!

I'm more curious about the Rivian. The tesla charging network is great but I have heard mixed reviews about others?
I have been looking at the R1S more and more and have found it to be a little concerning. A lot of the reviews mention oversteer occuring very easily, which makes me think the car is not coordinating the 4 motors properly. The infotainment is pretty weak, not containing apple or android car play. For the R1S, I was surprised to see that they have no cover that goes over the roof glass. While I understand that it is tinted, theres very little consideration for the child in the back seat who doesn't want the sun on them. Finally, the closest service location is 120 miles away from me. Thats just too much IMO.

Sadly, I'd really like to consider one, but I don't think they are there yet. After this Raptor, give EV another 6-8 yrs, it will be time to switch over.

Come on you pikers with your short trips. We’ve done 3 trips from NY to Moab and northern Idaho in two Gen2s and a Gen3.
No kids, no dogs. 17mpg at best. More like 16.8 or so. But who gives a rat’s arse about mpg. If I did I wouldn’t be driving a Raptor.

Someone mentioned Escalade Super Cruise. From videos I’ve watched, by far the best system out there. I’d love to try it.

Raptor is an awesome road trip vehicle. Each of our X country trips were about 7k miles.

This is an older comment, but we have a 2022 Escalade ESV with the mini duramax and supercruise. Its a road trip machine. Getting ~600 miles to the tank and supercruise is fantastic. If you road trip to Idaho, you're more than welcome to try it out. Only caveat with supercruise is that its less of the highways are routed/mapped here in Idaho. Less of an issue on the east coast.

I owned an R1S for a couple of weeks (sold it because my wife didn't want an EV that large) and can provide some feedback:

- Oversteer: never experienced it
- Infotainment: lack of CarPlay / Android Auto was a huge miss. Friend of mine is a director of engineering there and I've told him this at least 5 times and he has forwarded my complaints to the software team
- Roof tint: the amount they tinted in terms of light and heat rejection was pretty spot-on, so this didn't bother me
- Service location distance: closest one to me was 30 miles away and that felt too far, so I feel your 120 mile pain

My biggest concern with the R1S was it being the ~320 mile variant (vs. the 400+ variant I wanted). I drive up to the mountains a lot especially in the winter, so I want as much base range as possible. The tangentially related concern was that I tend to drive in blizzards (on purpose and accident), so I also generally don't feel comfortable in an EV for my particular use case so I couldn't keep the R1S for me. Charge network is another concern, but with Tesla opening up and more EV chargers being built-out constantly that was less of a concern.
