So last week I decided to order the recon tail lights and 3rd brake light to get a nice LED and blacked out look. So yea ordered them, used the 10% off code which was nice.
First impressions: Tail lights are of OEM quality and look fantastic, really really like them. 3rd brake light is pretty disappointing, from the front (what's visible when installed) it is OEM quality and looks great. The back is total crap, not enclosed and exposed. Well cheap plastic on the back covers anything electrical but definitely a huge difference on the back from the stockers.
Install: Tail lights take no time at all, install exactly as OEM, put my LED back up bulb in, which ticked me off that they didnt include it and needed to be bought separately. Overall, easy and a perfect fit, looks like they belong on my silver raptor.
3rd brake light install is no big deal, I cut out the OEM harness (saved them cause I might be putting it back on if this thing craps out) then just connected red to red, white to white, and black to black. Left the cargo light out which is black with a white stripe and just tied it up and tucked it away. Light is nice, only shines when you hit the brakes which is ...meh... I don't really like that but it isn't a big deal to me. Sealed the light in with silicon since I dont trust the gasket to keep everything dry (recon suggests this too). Looks great when installed!
On the truck: Once everything was installed I was really really happy with how the truck looked. Really really love the blacked out look, had it on my candy apple mustang so I am a huge fan. The tail lights are bad ass, love them! 3rd brake light looks so much better tinted and the LEDs are nice, still skeptical on them cause of quality.
Would I do it again: Yes and No... I would absolutely do the tail lights again! The quality is great, the turn signals flash at the normal interval for me. Not sure why some are flashing quickly they should have all the needed hardware installed necessary to draw the same power as stock and not have the computer think anything this different. So I cannot speak to that problem others are having.
As far the the 3rd brake light, I wouldn't do it a second time. The first issue this light gives me will be its last and I'll just tint the stock light and reconnect the stock harness to its wires (the ones I cut it from). As of right now I haven't had any issues from it but the lack of OEM quality does lead me to question it. Time will tell as to how long this light remains on my truck. Id like to think the silicon will keep it sealed and safe but you never know.
Couldn't take a lot of pics because I was losing light when I was installing but I'll post what I have for you guys. If you have any questions on this product feel free to ask and I'll give you my best advice from my experience. I cant speak for what others have experienced though.
