After I read about your logical concern I hit Google to see if there was some sort of roof mounted vertical laser (or other technology) clearance detector, which I think would be cool if the cost was right. Unfortunately there was nothing that came up. There are plenty that attach to bridges, tunnels, etc. that DOTs use but nothing for a personal vehicle. I guess it would be an expensive mod just to have a CravenSpeed stubby.

IF we had backup sensors like on my Explorer, a man could rig an extra sensor pointing up. But I don't think we have them, do we?

A logging company back in Nova Scotia was using laser pointers on their haulers for clearance under a train overpass that was very low. Usually 2 or three trucks a week would get stuck in it, deflate tires, back out and take the long way around. They had a normal red presentation laser pointed vertically on the mirror bracket with an adjustable stick with a mirror on top. The mirror would be extended to the height of the load. Coming upto the overpass the driver rolled his window down and pressed the on button, if the beam was on the overpass he turned around. pretty cheap and effective mod, long as the approach is level ground.

^^ You are right, it is cheap and effective solution that fills the trucking company's needs. Interesting.

The reason I had to have one was parking garages. The wife and I like to run down to New Orleans for 3 day weekends and such. Last time I was down the "button" on the end fell off from draging on the low concrete trusses that are about a inch lower that the antenna. Yeah I could of unscrewed it and put it back on. But now I don't have to worry for 20 bucks.

Ok, Just wanted to let everyone know how the customer service is from "Craven". I had trouble getting my antenna shipped to me, so i emailed them and asked them why it was taking so long. they emailed me back almost instantly and told me that they never received payment. I then sent them the email i got from them saying thanks for your transaction and that it had been an authorized transaction. They asked me what type of truck it was going on, I told them and they said that they have been getting a lot of orders for that same truck. They then almost imedeately responded and said they had found that transaction in their data base and that they would ship it out first thing in the morning. apologized for the inconvience and thanked me for my business. Not bad for such a small company i thought at least. so spread the word

The only suggestion I would make when ordering the antenna is to use standard USPS shipping (cheapest). I ordered on Friday (comes from Oregon) and received it on Monday (to North Carolina). Very quick shipping.
