Great condition garage kept 3rd party checked out before purchasing from dealership with great review

Recently shifting gears is jumping and even feels like getting rear ended.

Recently would not go into reverse or drive. Turn off give it a few mins and it runs fine, then made a horrible sound when switching to sport mode and driving down the road, let off the gas and had a high pitch whine/ not really a grinding noise.

Took to Ford dealership they scanned and ran diagnostic and rebooted. Told me I need a new tranny and not to drive it. Been sitting at farm for a month or so and I drive it around farm and have had no problems at all. Only driving 55/60 mph. It wouldn’t shift into park once but have not had a problem with it since I got it back.

Another post suggested shift linkage issue, debating on whether or not to take to local trans shop or get rid of it.
Afraid it may be an expensive fix

Any advice or comments would be helpful.
Thks in advance and for the responses.

My '20 that I've had since new, had a fractured wire in the harness that ended up destroying the front diff. It was holy hell to diagnose, very sporadic issue. It took 2 different field engineers to come from Ford to figure it out. I would take a hard look at your wires like was said above.
